Misfit

Chapter 61

Lana's POV

"How can two people be so stupid!" Harry yells, pointing at the TV.

"Calm yourself, Styles," I say, putting my arm on his and pushing it back down.

"This is why I don't like this movie. It's so unrealistic! This kid is like four years old and he's outsmarting grown men. Also how does he even think of any of this stuff." Gemma and I both start hitting his arms. His hands go up and surrender. "Okay! Stop it! I'll stop!"

We both stop and continue watching. "You promised no more bitching, Harry," Gemma says, taking a sip of her tea. "We won the vote fair and square, so suck it up and just watch the movie."

"It wasn't fair," Harry mumbles. I giggle and kiss his cheek a few times, trying to get him to smile. He doesn't move or react at all, so I stare at him. He looks at me quickly out of the corner of his eye and back at the TV. I continue staring and I see a smile tug at the corner of his lips. He finally turns his head slowly to look at me. "Would you stop already?"

"What?" I ask innocently.

"You know what. Watch the movie," he says, putting his index finger on my cheek and pushing it towards the TV. I follow the motion, then quickly swivel my head and trap his finger between my teeth. "Hey!" He tries to take it back, but I bite down a little harder. He raises his eyebrows. "Can I have my finger back?" I lick the bottom of his finger lightly and I see a little shock register on his face. He leans in close to me and whispers. "You should probably stop that. It's kind of turning me on." He winks and I release my hold, feeling my face flush. He chuckles and rests his hand on my leg as I turn back to the TV.

"What are you two whispering about?" Gemma asks impatiently.

"You don't want to know, trust me," Harry says quietly, smiling at the TV.

"Ew."

I laugh and lean my head against Harry's shoulder. He kisses the top of my head.

"Breakfast is ready!" Anne calls from the kitchen. Gemma pauses the movie and gets up quickly.

"Finally, I'm starving!" she groans, walking to the kitchen.

I start to stand but Harry tugs me back down. I'm about to ask what he's doing when he suddenly grips my waist and lifts me over him to the other side of the couch. A small squeal escapes my mouth and he chuckles as he moves to hover over me. "Not so fast."

I smile as he leans down to press his lips to mine. My hands automatically go into his hair, but I use my grip to pull his head away from mine. With difficulty. He winces a little as he opens his eyes to look down at me. "Why are you doing that?"

"You need to stop," I say quietly, trying to be stern.

"And why's that?"

"Because we aren't alone."

"I don't see anyone," he says, looking around the room.

"Harry."

"Lana."

"Your family is in the kitchen."

"And we're in the living room." I shake my head and try not to laugh at his persistence. He reveals one of his dimples as a crooked smile appears on his face. He can probably tell that I'm having this argument with myself as much as I'm having it with him.

"One kiss," I say holding up a finger. "One."

He smiles and leans back down, quickly pushing his tongue into my mouth. My mind starts to cloud as our lips move in sync. I should probably make him stop before I get too absorbed in this. Or someone comes in.

As that thought enters my head I quickly put my hands on his chest, pushing him backwards.

"Wait, no I wasn't done! You said one. That one wasn't over yet." His voice is slightly whiney as he voices his complaint.

"It's so sexy when you whine. Really. Please continue."

He rolls his eyes and moves into a sitting position, resting on my waist. He folds his arms across his broad chest. "I'm a man, I don't whine."

"Yes you do. Several times today, in fact."

He raises an eyebrow and puts his hands on either side my face, leaning over me again. "Do you have anything else to complain about?"

"Sometimes those curly locks of yours tickle my neck."

"Because I'm trying to kiss you. I'm pretty sure you like it. Anything else?"

"I hate it when you go longer than three days without shaving." He raises an eyebrow. "A little bit of stubble is sexy, but after that it kind of hurts my face."

"I don't-"

"Also, you literally never put enough sugar in my tea."

He starts laughing and puts a finger to my lips. "That's quite enough, love."

"Sorry," I whisper.

He chuckles and traces the outline of my mouth with the tip of his finger. "If you think the tea is gross why do you drink it?"

I shrug and fiddle with the strings of his sweatshirt. He waits a watches my face. "I like it when you make me tea. It's nice."

"Why didn't you just tell me to put more sugar in..."

"It's the thought that counts."

He shakes his head and smiles at me. "It's just tea." I shrug again. I don't know why I thought the tea thing was such a big deal. He was just so cute whenever he brought it to me. Correcting him would ruin the moment.

"Harry, get off of her and come eat breakfast," I hear Anne suddenly from the doorway. I can't see her, but she is probably smiling and shaking her head at Harry. He smiles at her and looks back down to me.

"I am starving," I say, starting to sit up. He puts a finger to my chest and pushes me back down, then leans forward and brushes the hair falling in front of his face across my face. I giggle and he looks back at me, smiling before dipping his head and rubbing his cheek against mine.

"Harry, quit it!" I squeal, trying to push his face away from mine.

"Haven't shaved in almost a week, babe. You must just love that."

I giggle again and try to squirm away from him. He finally pulls back and I rub my cheek, which I'm sure is now red from Harry's retaliation against my complaints.

"That was unnecessary."

"Not really." He kisses me quickly and climbs off me, pulling me up with him. We walk into the kitchen and join his family at the table. The amount of food spread out on the table is quite impressive, and a little excessive. Although, it wouldn't be the first time Harry surprised me with the amount of food he could consume in one sitting.

"Thank you for gracing us with your presence," Gemma teases, scooping some scrambled eggs onto her plate.

"Lana was just informing me that I'm a terrible boyfriend," Harry explains, pouring me a glass of juice.

"I did not say that!" Everyone chuckles and Gemma shrugs.

"I'm not surprised. I knew it was all too good to be true. There's no way Harry could be a boyfriend."

"I take offence to that, Gem."

"Hold on," I say, holding up my hands. "I did not say that he's a bad boyfriend. Let's be honest, only a fantastic boyfriend would get me a gift like this." I hold up my left wrist, proudly displaying my bracelet.

"That's true," Gemma agrees, taking a bite of her food. Anne stares at my wrist for a minute, as does Robin.

"What is it?" she asks curiously, craning her neck to look at the charms.

I unclip it and pass it to her, reaching across Harry. "Excuse me, please," he teases as my arm goes in front of his face. Anne takes the bracelet and I put some food on my plate. "Don't be rude, Lana. Table manners."

"Harry, where did you get this?" Anne asks, taking one of the charms between her fingers.

"I had it made," he says quietly, suddenly taking deep interest in the food on his plate.

"This is beautiful, love. It's so personal."

He takes a large bite of bacon, occupying his mouth so he can't respond. I put my hand on his leg and squeeze a little. He's clearly uncomfortable with this kind of situation; I don't think he likes everyone seeing him being so vulnerable. He doesn't get like that a lot. Anne sense his discomfort and passes the bracelet back to me. I struggle to wrap it back around my wrist. Harry sighs beside me and reaches across my body, bringing my wrist in front of him and taking the small clasp in his large hands. He clips it in place and brings my wrist to his mouth, planting a light kiss against the skin. I feel my face turn red and I stare at him a little. He smiles at me and goes back to his food. I can feel the other three staring at us, so I just look at my food and take a small bite.

"So, you and your father are joining us for dinner, right?" Anne asks me.

"Yeah, he said he would like that. What time should we be here?"

"I'm planning on having dinner ready for 7."

"So that means 8:30 or 9," Gemma clarifies, earning a roll of the eyes from Anne as Harry chuckles beside me.

"I am not that bad!" she defends.

"Yes you are, mum. Maybe you should plan to have dinner ready for 4 so we can eat on time," Harry says, putting even more food on his plate.

"Ungrateful children," Anne mutters.

After breakfast we clean up together. Harry steals a few quick kisses from me and squeezes my ass a few times. I can't help but smile every time. I love it when he does those little things, even when we're around other people. He always pays attention to me. Everyone goes their separate ways, gathering up their gifts and going to shower or change.

"I'm going to go home and get ready. I need to get out of these pyjamas," I tell Harry, gathering all the gifts I got from his family.

"Alright, I'll come with you."

"I need to shower."

"Great, so do I," he says, smirking and resting his hands on my hips.

"I don't think I invited you." I rest my hands on his biceps and try not to let how impressed I am by them register on my face.

"You did. Maybe not out loud."

"What does that even mean?" I laugh, pinching the tip of his nose a little.

"Hold on, I'm going to get some clothes." He kisses my forehead quickly and goes up the stairs, skipping one every time with his massively long legs. I smile and shake my head as he disappears into his room. I go to gather the rest of my things when my phone starts vibrating.

"Hello?"

Hey, Lan, it's Dad."

"Hey, what's up? I'm just across the street, I'll be home in a minute."

"I'm not back yet."

"What?" I would have thought he'd have been home before noon, and it's almost two now.

"I'm at mom's hotel."

"What? Why?"

"She and I need to sort some things out."

"And Christmas is the day to do that?"

"Look, Lan, this is important alright? She keeps calling me and I just want to sort this out before I come home. What time is dinner?"

"Anne said seven, so we should be here by like 6:30."

"Okay, I'll be home by 5:30 or 6 at the latest. I'm sorry, I know this isn't the best timing. I'll see you soon."

"Okay. Bye, Dad." We both hang up and I shove my phone back in my pocket. Leave it to my mom to make Christmas all about her.

"Woah, everything okay?" Harry asks, coming up beside me.

"Fine. Why?"

"You're being pretty rough with those presents. What did they ever do to you?" He rubs his nose against my cheek and I feel myself relax a little.

"Sorry." I lean against him and close my eyes.

"Don't apologize. What's wrong?"

"My Dad just called. He's spending the afternoon at my mom's hotel."

"That's weird. Aren't they getting a divorce? Why is he-"

"Ew! Harry, not like that!" I shout, smacking his arm. "Why would you say that!"

He puts his hands up in surrender and tries not to smile. "Sorry! That's just where my mind goes when you say hotel room."

"Well get your mind out of the gutter. They're talking. Trying to work some things out."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't know, that's all my Dad told me."

"Are you guys still coming for dinner?"

"I think so."

"Okay, good," he says, smiling and taking my now full bags of presents from me. "I guess that means your house is empty?"

I laugh a little and put my boots on. "I guess it does."

There's a fresh layer of snow on the ground outside; it's been snowing since yesterday. I don't really like snow, but Christmas was the one day I could deal with it. It just isn't Christmas without snow. I can't imagine spending Christmas in California anymore. Harry walks in front of me down my driveway, telling me about his mother's usual Christmas spread. I silently stop and bend over to collect some of the white powder in my hands. I pack it together in a tight ball and fling it at Harry's back. He stops talking abruptly and slowly turns to face me.

"Did you just throw a snowball at me?"

"Of course not," I say innocently, putting my hands behind my back. He smirks at me for a minute, then walks into my house and sets the bags on the floor. He comes back out and walks onto the grass.

"You're going to pay for that."

Gemma's POV

"Mum, come look at this." I wave her over to the front window where I'm standing.

"What?" She walks over and follows my gaze.

"Look at them," I laugh, shaking my head. Mum and I both laugh when Lana pegs Harry in the back of the head with a fairly large clump of snow. They chase each other around on the grass, but Harry has a much easier time manoeuvring through the deep snow. He's quite a bit taller than Lana. I can tell he's missing her on purpose, and the ones he does hit her with don't have much force behind them. "It's cute how gentle he is with her." I've had snowball fights with him before. He's ruthless.

"It is."

"What do you think of this?" I ask my mum, laughing again as Harry dives into Lana and pulls her to the ground with him. I can just hear her scream through the window.

"It's adorable, they look like little kids." She laughs at the sight in front of us.

"No, I mean of Harry having a girlfriend."

"Oh. Well it was s little surprising, but as soon as they met I could tell he was infatuated with her."

"So you saw it coming?"

She shrugs. "I could tell her liked her a lot more than he let on. But then he came home and said he told her he just wanted to be friends. I figured that meant he was going back to his old ways. I just thought he wasn't ready."

"Yeah, he didn't really tell me much about all of that. Just started gushing when they actually started dating." I watch with amusement as Lana struggles to get out of Harry's grasp. They're probably soaking wet by now, but he doesn't let her get up.

"They spent all of their time together before they started dating. She practically lived here."

"Really?"

"They would study together almost every day after school and hang out every weekend. Those times would usually be with other people as well, but sometimes just the two of them."

"He must have been going crazy."

"I think they both were. I would come in and watch them study sometimes. When one wasn't paying attention the other would just stare. It was so funny to watch. Especially Harry. I could see it was killing him to be friends with her. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did."

"I can't believe he's in love," I whisper, smiling as Lana sits on his stomach and tickles him.

"It sure seems like he is. I wonder if she is."

"Mum, they've said it to each other."

"What?" She asks, putting her hand on my arm and looking at me. I look at her as Harry reaches up and pulls Lana's face down to kiss her. "How do you know that?"

"She told me."

"Wow. Are you serious?" I nod and she smiles and looks back at them.

"Don't you think it's.. a little fast?" I ask. I was kind of nervous about this. I didn't want Harry to get his heart broken. I knew what would happen if it did. He would shut down completely.

"I don't know, Gem. Look at them," she gestures to the window and I watch as the finally get up from the snow. Harry gently brushes the white powder off of her, and Lana swats his hand away when he pays extra attention to her backside. She ruffles his now wet hair and he shakes his head as he leans down to kiss her again. "It does seem like they're in love."

"Yeah."

"She's perfect for him."

I laugh and nod in agreement. It's true; I'd met a few girls Harry had...been with. Mostly by accident. He wasn't half as gentle and attentive as he is with Lana. He treats her like a princess. It's adorable. They disappear into Lana's house and raise an eyebrow at my mum.

"Her dad's car is gone, mum."

She sighs. "I know."

"You're okay with that?"

"I can't do much about it, can I? It's no secret that Harry's had sex before, so why would I stop him now that he's in a committed relationship? Besides, they're going to find a way to be together either way."

"That's very enlightened," I tease, nudging her arm. "Doesn't it weird you out, though?"

"Of course it does, he's my baby."

"And now he's over there making one of his own."

She hits my arm lightly and I laugh. "Don't say that! I don't want to think about this any more than I have to." She goes back into the kitchen and I pul my phone out of my pocket.

Harry's POV

"What should I do with this?" I ask Lana, holding up my soaking wet sweater.

"I'll put it in the dryer." She takes it from me and walks to he back of the house.

"Well, you might as well put my pants in there, too." I smile and slide my pyjamas off. She shakes her head and snatches them out of my hand.

"You are nothing but trouble, Styles."

I laugh and watch her walk away. "Shit, wait, my phone is in there somewhere." I jog over to her, just in my boxers, and dig through my pockets to pull out my phone. I'm surprised when I see a text from Gemma. Lana goes into the laundry room and I laugh at the message my sister sent me.

G: Don't forget to use protection. Don't need any miniature Harrys running around.

H: The world could use more Harrys

G: The world wouldn't survive that.

I chuckle again and Lana walks past me into the living room. "What's so funny?"

"My sister just advised me on safe sex."

"What!" She spins and looks at me, kind of horrified.

"What?" She groans and flops down onto the couch. It's so cute that she gets so embarrassed about this stuff. I lean over the back of the couch and remove her hands from her face. "Why do you get so embarrassed?"

"It doesn't bother you that your family knows that we have sex? And when?"

I shrug. "Not really." It was part of having a relationship, right? I was just glad I didn't have to sneak around anymore. My mum was pretty relaxed about this, but there was no way I was bringing all kinds of girls home in Bradford. She didn't need to know about that. She probably knew it was happening, but that didn't mean she needed to see it. Plus, who lets a one night stand meet their mother? Just no.

"Well it bothers me," Lana whines.

I chuckle and move around the couch. "Are you going to take your clothes off?"

"Wow, that's a little forward, don't you think? You're not even going to kiss me first?"

"I meant to dry them. You must be frozen."

"Oh, right. Yea. But unlike you I'm not just going to strip down in the front entrance." I start walking up the stairs and shit sits up from the couch. "Where are you going?"

"I'm freezing. I'm going in the shower." She scrambles up and runs after me, pushing past me and shutting the door before either of us can go in. I stop in front of her and cross my arms. "What are you doing?"

"You can't go in here."

I smirk at her and raise an eyebrow. "Why's that?"

"You just can't."

"What's behind the door, Lan?" I ask, taking a step closer to her. She puts her hands on my chest in an attempt to keep me away.

"If you love me you'll let me go in there for a minute before you go in."

"What's in there?"

"It's a disaster. You probably wouldn't want to see me ever again if you saw it. Just wait for a minute."

"Fine. One minute." She opens the door a little and squeezes in, shutting the door behind her. "After sixty seconds I'm coming in."

"I think you've forgotten I have a lock on my door," she shouts from inside.

"Shit." I can hear her laughing a little. "What are you doing in there? I'm freezing!"

"Well you should have thought of that before you took off all of your clothing!"

I turn and lean back against the door, waiting for her to be done whatever she's doing in there. "When are you going to let me in? Ah!" She suddenly swings the door open and I fall backwards. Somehow I don't manage to get my balance back and I fall flat on my ass. Awesome. Lana stares at me for a minute, hand still on the doorknob, then starts laughing hysterically. She back up to the bed and falls on it, rolling around clutching her sides.

"I can't believe you just fell over!" She says finally, still laughing a little. I stand and slowly walk over to the bed.

"I don't appreciate being laughed at, Lana." She crawls backwards on the bed away from me as I make my way over. She starts scrambling to jump off the other side, but I lean across and grab her ankle, tugging her back towards me. She must weigh like one pound. Barely anything. I climb onto the bed, hands and knees on either side of her body.

"It was funny," she defends.

"You're mean today."

"No I'm not! It's Christmas! I would never be mean today."

"Then I think you should probably make it up to me."

She smiles and reaches up, running her hands through my hair and clasping them behind my neck. "How can I do that?"

"I have a few ideas."
