So I actually read this story twice, once before I had finals, and the second time during the first full week of July. I realize the timing doesn’t matter, but both times I had the same feelings toward the story. If this story was a roller coaster, I was full on nauseous for the ride. There were a couple of elements that worked for me, but the rest was just kinda “amfjfiajgncinad???” About that latter part, I actually have no idea how to describe my thoughts on your story in one word but I really wish there were a word. Your story isn't terrible, it's just… amfjfiajgncinad. It wasn't the best either but it wasn't actually terrible.

I honestly think the story was really well written, but the actions and decisions made by some of the characters just pissed me off a little too much. Melanie obviously knew that she was being reckless because she admitted time and time again that she was a mess and didn’t know what she was doing or why, yet she still continued to do everything that she knew was wrong because she just couldn’t help herself. Honestly, the whole time she was toying with both of the two guys’ emotions I was rooting for her to just drop both their asses to the curb and become an independent woman. She was making me absolutely sick the way she was acting about liking both of them. Niall and Harry didn’t help either because they both just wanted her so bad they forgave her for everything she did with the other and continued to love her. Like, was she really that special?

That leads me into another thing. I’m a strong believer that the main character has to be a little irking and slightly hated, but Melanie made me lose my damn mind. Ugh, I wanted to throw her into a rocky chasm and leave her there. She seemed pretty chill at first, but as you delved quicker and quicker into the triangle drama, the sense of her character was lost. At the end, I identify Mel as an indecisive, inconsiderate, and careless woman and homewrecker. I couldn’t at all understand why the two men were fighting over her. I feel like her character was a bit underdeveloped in the beginning which is why everybody’s actions only start to make me more angry at the story. The whole back and forth, Niall or Harry made my head spin for days. I thoroughly hated Melanie by at most chapter 14, and it was a lot more hate than I should have for a main character.

I think this might have been a little preventable if the story had been a little bit slower or built up to the drama and put some fluff between changes in dudes. Too much fluff is definitely bad and drags out a story, but little to no fluff can lead to head hurting.

In summary, An Unexpected Turn took too many turns for my liking.

I hope you do take something out of this and improve on and continue your writing, but if you don’t, that’s fine too.
