A World Gone to Shit

Chapter 2

Chapter 2:
Lana's POV:
I laid there cold and unhappy. No. Unhappy was an understatement. I was furious and horrified and wanted to flat out start balling. But i truly had no reason to. Sam did. After seeing Roxy being literally ripped from her arms, I don't know how she's still functioning. They probably think I'm still sleeping. Its already sunrise and I can hear everyone whispering answers and questions to each other, since Sam really was still asleep.
"So who are they?" Niall whispered.
"Harry saw them on the side of the road and slammed on the breaks." Liam answered.
"Weren't you driving?" Niall asked.
"Yes." Liam responded, the annoyance in his voice showering through his calm façade.
I yawned and started to pull back the curtain to the bunk. Did they sleep on the couch and on the floor? I shouldn't have taken the bunk. That was rude of me.
"Good morning." Liam said in a softly, but regular volume voice.
"Morning." I said rubbing my eyes and yawning again. I looked over to the bunk across from me to see it was empty. "Where's Sam?" I asked, assuming they knew.
"She's out helping Zayn fix the bus." Perrie said walking up from the back of the bus.
"And what about Harry?" I asked again.
"He’s out hunting with Louis." Liam answered. I nodded and headed to outside of the bus.
"Hey sleepy head, good to see you're awake." Harry said walking towards me with a gun slung over his shoulder, Louis trailing behind him.
"Did you get anything?" I asked.
"Does this answer your question?" Harry retorted as her slung three rabbits in front of me.
"Good job." I said wanting to crack a smile, but denying the small urge.
Louis stood there with a blank expression. He looked so sad and empty, but I didn't want to ask why. I had to assume that it was something similar to what happened to Sami, since she had the same look whenever she wasn't crying.
Harry walked onto the bus and Louis followed with smaller steps. I found myself walking to the other side of the bus to see how Sam was doing.

I walked over to see both her and Zayn silently working. I knew Zayn was a reserved guy, but had never seen Sam so quiet. When everything was great, back in the good old days, she'd have the biggest smile and would never shut up. At this point, I really missed her random babble of anything she could think of.

"Hey! Sami!" I said waving and hesitantly walking over to her. She looked up and gave me a half smile. I could've started crying right there and then. I was happier than I had ever felt ever, just to see my best friend smile again. She was still mute, but now she showed emotions other that sadness. I had never really imagined myself to feel so upset at myself than I was right there, I could’ve stopped this, I could’ve saved Roxy.
“Well look at that.” Zayn said quietly lightly hitting the hood of the bus after closing it. The engine started up and we heard muffled cheers from inside the bus. I let go of Sami and gave her a smile. I didn’t realize that I had actually started crying until she took her thumb across my cheek, wiping up the single tear I had shed.
“Thanks.” I sniffled, getting a nod in response.
As the three of us got onto the bus, Sam and Zayn got many high fives and hugs as they made their way to the back. The bus started to pull away from our stationary spot and started to head for the horizon, Liam at the wheel.
I took a seat on the sofa and felt Sam start to cuddle into my side, so I instinctively started to rub her back in soothing circles. She nuzzled her head into my side, starting to clutch my sweatshirt with her white knuckles, my queue to kiss the top of her head.
Harry sat next to me hesitantly. “Hello.” He said quietly, placing a hand on my knee.
“Hi.” I said back, offering a smile.
“Is she okay?” He asked as he glanced over at Sam, giving sympathetic eyes.
“She’s getting better.” I said patting his hand with my free one. “Where are we headed?” I asked as a general question for anyone to answer.
“Liam said we were headed to a military base north of here. Somewhere near Boston, I think." Niall said as he walked from the front of the bus. He was the cheeriest guy I'd ever seen, especially since everyone was dead.
Harry's POV:
Lana sat talking to Niall while holding Sam in her arms. Zayn was lying in his bunk with Perrie, probably attempting sleep, but ending fruitless, just like anyone else who tried to sleep now a days. It was terrible, you'd feel sluggish and tired, but everytime your eyes closed, all you could see was people dying. But all I could wonder right now was, where the hell Louis was.
I walked over to his bunk on the opposite side of Zayn's and peered in the curtain to find Louis curled up into a ball, lying on his side, his back towards me. "Lou?" I said, watching him flinch at the sound of my voice. He turned his head, his eyes red from tears. "Lou, you should talk about this."
"With who? You, Harry? You don't know shit about what I'm going through." he tried yelling, but it came out quiet and horse. I really hadn't heard him talk for days, so the fact he spoke was surprising enough as it was, let alone the fact he was right. I didn't lose anyone, or at least I didn't watch anyone die. I did wonder if Gemma and mom were okay. They were all the way back in Cheshire, and maybe it was just in the states.
"No. Sam lost someone too." I said glancing back at Lana. "I dont want to see you like this anymore."
He deeply inhaled and looked at me through glazed eyes. He squeezed his eyes shut while he exhaled, but start to turn his body to get off of the bunk. This didn't make me as happy as I had hoped. He seemed more miserable than before, but I couldn't just let him shrivel up into nothing but a pile of depression.
"Hi Sam." he said meekly, voice still horse. She looked up at him, their eyes, both equally irritated and red. "I lost someone too." this caught her attention. "My girlfriend, El, she um--" he started to rub the back of his head, his eyes struggling to hold back tears. "We were at the concert, backstage, and I watched her be ripped from my arms and--" he obviously couldn't finish, but he didn't have to, before he could say anything else, Sam had pounced to hug him tightly. She had her arms wrapped around his waist like a belt. He held her back, his hands cupping her shoulder blades.
"Two lost souls connect better than two regular people." Lana said, walking up next to me, her arms folded.
I looked down at her, and scanned her face for a moment. "Define regular."

Notes
