Sad, Beautiful, Tragic |h.s|

Prologue

“WHAT?!” she yelled, making Alexis flinch at the loudness of the blonde's voice.

“Can I stay. Just for today? Tomorrow morning, first thing I’ll find a flat and a job,” Lexi said
as the girl stared back incredulously. She closed her eyes, tears that she'd held back for too long threatened to spill, "it's okay. I-I'll find a hotel or something."

"No!! You're not staying in a hotel, and I don't give a fuck if you spend your entire left here. In fact I would prefer that. But tell me EVERYTHING, why did you...just leave him?"

"Can we..." Lexi pointed at the exit of the airport. Looking around for any signs of paparazzi.

She nodded, and both of them silently headed to the exit.

"Explain." Was all she said, as they stepped into her house.

"Can we not talk about this right now? I'm just tired Tay," Lexi replied warily. Taylor searched Lexi’s face deciding whether she should drop the topic or not. Looking at her friend’s face she decided against it. She looked tired and sick. Taylor nodded, leading her towards the spare bedroom. While Lexi silently thanked Taylor for not forcing her into saying anything, because if she heard his name again she’d start crying. The kind of crying that you know is not going to stop.

Lexi crawled under the covers. Taylor sadly looked at her friend, then silently shut the door behind her. That much she knew, that whatever this was--was related to Harry. She sighed and headed to her own room.

“Who was the chic? She’s hot!”

“Her name is Lexi. Alexis Tomlinson. And Austin, stay away from her she has a boyfriend. Like, really, really, really has a boyfriend. The nuclear bomb of boyfriends. Or at least she did have one,” Taylor sighed dropping on the bed beside her brother.

“Lou…Louis’s sister? She’s dating Harry, right?” he asked.

“Hopefully,” Taylor mumbled under her breath. Austin gave her a quizzical look. She shrugged and closed her eyes, “Goodnight Austin.”

“‘Night Tay,” her brother replied before walking out of his sister’s room.

Lexi curled into a tight ball, her eyes stinging with the tears that were yet to come. Her hands traveled to the familiar band on her finger. And like that the last button had been pushed, not being able to trace the familiar heart on the ring she let out muffled sobs.

I can still go back. Take it all back. And we’ll be together...forever. I know he still loves me. As soon as the thought came she dug her fingernails into her palm. How could she even dare to think so?

Selfish. heartless, mother fucking bitchy cunt. Her own voices jumped back and forth in her mind. She squeezed her eyes shut and covered her ears trying to block all of them out. She stuffed her face in a pillow and let out a muffled scream. Her palms were bruised and bloody due to the digging of her sharp fingernails in them over and over again.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” she chanted over and over again in the empty room. As if he could hear her.

But she was not brave enough to say that to his face, because little did she know, that just these two words was all it would take for him to take her back.

Taylor silently opened the door to Lexi's room. She bit her lip anxiously before walking inside and sitting beside her, gently running her fingers through Lexi's chestnut hair.

"Do you wanna talk about it, now?" she asked softly, afraid to break the girl, like she was a fragile piece of glass. Lexi turned around, and Taylor instantly wrapped her arms around her. She looked like so lost and vulnerable, it broke her heart.

She rubbed her back softly, and nodded as Lexi recited what had happened. A rush of anger went through her as she told him about Scott trying to stab her, and tears stung her eyes when Lexi told him about Harry taking the stab in her place.

"You love each other it's as simple as that. Your way of protecting..." Tay sighed, "You're not protecting him this way, Lexi. Just hurting him."

"You have no idea what Scott can do... I can't...I don't want to be the reason of anything happening to him." Lexi replied fiddling with her fingers.

"And you think you are saving him from that thing by staying away from him?"

Lexi opened her mouth to protest, but Taylor cut her off angrily.

"If whatever the fuck that son-of -a-bitch's name is," Tay was surprised herself at her use of language, but she continued anyway, "can do anything. Then he can hurt Harry even if you leave him."

Lexi knew it was a valid point, but she was stubborn as a mule and even Taylor knew that.

"But maybe, maybe he'll not hurt him," Lexi said softly.

"Maybe?" Taylor scoffed.

Lexi turned away, she had only cried in front of three people in her life--Louis, Eleanor and Harry. She closed her eyes and sucked on some air.

"I--I have half-a-scholarship at Stanford," Lexi said. "I just need to find a flat, and I'll be gone."

"Lexi, that's not what I want."

"Then stop the fuck telling me what to do!" She yelled, and Taylor flinched in surprise. She nodded slowly before walking out of the room.

"Austin has a friend who studies there. I think he'll be able to find a dormitory." With that Taylor walked out of the room. She pulled her phone out to call Louis. He would be able to put some sense into her.

"Tay! I'm trusting you on this. Don't tell anybody, if you do...You're risking not only his life but the whole bands'" Lexi yelled from within the room, as if she'd read her intentions. "Please. I'll go back, eventually. I promise," Taylor couldn't see the crossed fingers beneath the sheets.

"Promise?" she asked again.

"Promise," Lexi replied her fingers still crossed.

"Okay," she nodded and dropped the phone.

"I'll see you next week, okay?" Taylor said as the final bag was pulled out of the trunk. Lexi nodded staring at the huge campus. This was the start of a new life, or so she thought.

"Yeah, you will," she looked at Taylor now, giving her an almost real smile. Then pulled her friend in a hug, "Thank you so much Taylor."

"Good luck, Lexi Tomlinson," Taylor called out as Lexi walked towards the gates.

"Alessia. Alessia Cowell," she replied without looking back.
