Just a Fool

Chapter 5: Just Admit It

When Harry woke up that Monday morning he got ready in record time. Shaking his head his curls fell in his face just the way he liked it. Looking in the mirror he shaved the little bit of stubble he had before putting his piercings back in. Every time he looked at his lip ring he remembered the day he came home with it, his mom just looked at him in shock and then gave him the 'That's going to look so good in ten years' speech. A few weeks later when he came home with an eyebrow piercing she just rolled her eyes knowing nothing she could say would change his mind. It was the same way with his tattoos. She was against it when he got his first one but that didn't stop him from getting more. Now he was just happy she accepted him no matter what he decided to do with his body.

He knew Anne had already left for work giving him enough time for what he had planned. Under his bed he had a shoebox full of his winnings from his fights, over $1600 in total. Taking the money he headed downstairs, his mom had tried hiding their bills from him for the longest time but he knew where she kept them. In a drawer by the sink he found four envelopes torn open along with more unused envelopes and stamps. Picking up the first piece of paper he read their water bill was a hundred and fifteen dollars for the month. Counting the money he placed it aside with the bill. He did the same thing with the others until he was done, with some money leftover. In the back of his mind he had no idea how he was going to explain this to his mom, he couldn't just tell her about how he got the money but he hoped he had enough time to figure something out. After he put the money filled envelopes in the mailbox it was time to head to school, and for once he was actually looking forward to it.

In the gymnasium Abigail sat at the foot of the bleachers watching as some the football team practiced their passes on the court. She couldn't help but laugh at Charlotte who picked the absolute worst time to try and walk across the wooden floor. Ducking her head she ran, squealing when she saw a player throw a ball her way. When she finally made it to the bleachers she glared at the boys in front of her. “Can't they do this outside and not in here where people who are not ready for Mondays are trying to walk?” She exclaimed pushing her glasses further up her nose.

“The coach said it was too foggy so they had to come in here.” Abigail explained.

“Well they should battle the elements because if I got hit with something I would sue.” She mumbled dropping her bag to the floor. “So what did you do this weekend?”

Sighing Abigail knew she couldn't tell her about the fight. “I went to see Grandad in the hospital.” Her friends knew how sick he had gotten, they had visited the hospital with her in the past.

“How is he? I didn't know he was in there again.”

“Worse than before, but I'm hoping he'll get better, I mean he always does.”

“Yeah, your Grandad is like a tank.” Charlotte joked making her friend laugh. “So you know Vanessa's fall party is this weekend right?”

“The one where everyone is invited?” Charlotte nodded. “Great, she's in my Home Ec class so I'll be hearing all about it.”

“Oh yeah, isn't Harry in that class too? If he has to wear an apron please take a picture and show it to me.” She chuckled.

At the mention of Harry Abigail stiffened. Over the weekend just when she got Harry off her mind he seemed to creep his way back in. She found herself remembering his tattoos, the ones on his collarbones seemed to stick out the most to her. His T-shirts' collars dropped just low enough for her to see his muscular chest. 'Oh no, don't go there Abby.' She thought clearing her throat.

Relaxing back into her seat she remembered her promise, this was a new year and she wasn't going to let anything bother her like she had in the past. “He's kind of my partner in that class.”

“Oh wow, does he talk about sacrificing animals and drinking blood?”

“No, no actually he seems...nice. We didn't get to talk that much but he's not what people have made him out to be.” The thought of his arms wrapped around her made her smile softly.

Smirking a little Charlotte noticed her friend's sudden change in mood. “Do you like him?”

Snapping out of her love drunk state Abigail shook her head. “No! I don't even know the guy.” She defended, even though her voice wasn't so convincing.

“You don't have to know everything about him to think he's hot...which he is. Even I can admit that.”

Before she had the chance to respond the sound of heels clicking against the hardwood made them look up. Kristin sauntered her way over, not even paying attention to the passes being tossed over her head. She always used school as a fashion show and when she walked into the gym she turned it into her own personal runway. “How do you wear those all day?” Charlotte asked looking at her feet.

“What?” Kristin groaned lifting one foot to examine her shoe. “They're booties, not that high and you know flats are a no no for me. I will be buried in heels, mark my words.”

Abigail and Charlotte shook their heads, laughing at their friend but she was always the one they went to for humor. Once she sat down they talked about Vanessa's party, or rather Kristin trying to convince them to go. “I don't care if I have to kidnap you two you're going.”

“You don't even like Vanessa.” Charlotte blurted, knowing the arguments Kristin and Vanessa have had in the past.

“So? Everyone is going to be there.”

“Including Harry.” Charlotte giggled nudging Abigail's arm making her blush.

“Hang on, what did I miss? Does sweet little Abby have a crush on a certain tattooed, smoking, bad boy of our class?”

Throwing her hands up Abigail shook her head. “No, I don't, I just think he's...attractive. And we have a class together, that's it.”

“Uh huh,” Kristin scoffed. “But if it helps my case to get your ass to the party, yes Harry will be there. I doubt he would miss something like that anyway.”

Rolling her eyes Abigail agreed, half because she knew her friends wouldn't give up until she said yes and but half of her thought a night out might do her some good. “Fine, I'll go, you can stop pouting now.”

“Yay! We'll go to the mall sometime this week and I will pick out what you two are going to wear.” Knowing it was best to just let her win they nodded their heads.

Outside Harry dropped his cigarette to the ground as he listened Louis and Niall go on about a party that was being held that coming weekend. He knew unless he had a fight he was going to get dragged to it, even if he didn't want to. When he heard it was at Vanessa's house he sure didn't want to. “Aw Harry, come on, its at her mansion! The house is so big you probably won't even see her.” Niall defended, trying his best to change his mind.

“I'll think about it,” He said making his friends whooped and high fived.

Hearing the bell ring from the school they made their way out of the parking lot along with the other students. Walking in the crowd Harry found himself looking for one person in particular. Scanning the faces he suddenly stopped, there she was. She was smiling and laughing, completely different from when she saw her the previous day. Falling back a little he waited for her to pass him before he spoke up. “Hey Angel,” He said close to her ear.

Turning around her eyes met the boy who had held her mind captive for the past two days. “Oh, hi Harry.” She smiled.

He was surprised she actually spoke to him. So surprised he didn't know what else to say.
“Uh...” 'Shit,' He thought, since when is he speechless.

“Cat got your tongue, Harry?” Kristin giggled, grabbing Abigail's arm pulling her in the opposite direction.

“What the hell was that?” Louis asked from beside him. “Losing your touch there, Styles?”

Giving him a playful shove Harry grumbled. “Shut up, Louis.” He was grateful he had a few hours until he was going to see her again.

When she reached her locker Abigail was still thinking of Harry's shocked face. It was the first time she had seen him flustered, a completely different person than the one that stood in the circle ready to fight Philip. “I never thought I would see him like that,” Charlotte muttered.

“I know right? Its weird...and since when does he call you 'Angel?'” Kristin asked looking at the blonde.

“Since Home Ec, its just a dumb nickname.” Abigail explained opening her locker.

“Aww, you could be his angel!” Kristin giggled, hopping up and down. “Did you see the way he looked at you when you talked to him? He likes you!”

“Calm down Kris, people are staring.” Charlotte snapped gripping onto Kristin's sleeve. “Besides Harry needs more than an angel, he needs tattoo removal and a haircut.”

“Abby seems to like his hair,” Kristin sang bumping her hip against Abigail's. “And everything else about him.”

Abigail felt the heat rush to her cheeks. Covering her face with her hands she laughed nervously. “Hush Kris, I gotta get to class.”

“Fine, fine, go daydream about your new boy. I know that's a lot more interesting than French. I'll see you guys at lunch.”

Parting ways with her friends Abigail headed upstairs to her first class. She didn't want to admit it but she knew they were right. Even though she shouldn't, she found him attractive. His looks screamed dangerous, and what he did to make money lived up to that but the guy she saw was different. Something about him seemed warm and comforting. Despite what she had heard about him she wanted to learn more. She wanted to know the real person, she just hoped she got the chance.
