Just a Fool

Chapter 17: Pulled Back In

When Abigail woke up the next morning she couldn't help but feel safe and secure in Harry's arms. Neither had moved the entire night, her back was firmly pressed against his chest with his strong arms around her. Smiling to herself she rolled over to watch her boyfriend's sleeping face. Even with the piercing in his lip and the tattoos scattered across his skin she couldn't help but think he looked so innocent. Brushing her fingertips over his shoulder she lightly traced his tattoos, giving him goosebumps. When she heard Harry groan she pulled her hand back. “You awake?” She murmured moving closer to his face.

Instead of answering he mumbled a few words into his pillow, pulling her into his chest. Giggling she lifted her head to look at his face. “I had no idea you would be like a child this early in the morning.”

“'M not,” He grumbled.

“You kinda are,” She smiled, twirling one of his curls around her finger. “You gonna wake up?”

She noticed Harry smirk before he rolled over on top of her. “Are you going to make me?” He asked, his voice husky and deep sending shivers down Abigail's spine.

Suddenly feeling very anxious Abigail stammered. “U-uh, I...”

“Oh shit,” He mumbled, quickly rolling off of her. “I'm sorry baby, I just...you...you're beautiful and I...”

“No Harry wait,” She muttered, “I'm sorry, you just surprised me. I'm not made of glass you know.”

Chuckling he gently pushed a strand of blonde hair out of her face. When she held his hand in hers she tugged him closer so their lips could touch. Sighing into the kiss he laced their fingers together as he climbed on top of her. Abigail's free hand ran up his arm to his shoulder, feeling the muscles that made her feel so safe. The kiss slowly started getting more passionate until they heard the door open. “Oh my God!” Gemma exclaimed quickly slamming it shut.

Harry cringed. “Shit,” He sighed, resting his head on Abigail's shoulder.

“And I thought I had avoided all awkward situations with your family.” She whispered, her hand covering her mouth.

Harry couldn't help it, a loud laugh escaped his mouth. “Don't worry, Angel, Gemma should be fine. She just learned she should knock next time.”

Giggling Abigail kissed his cheek. “Well I guess we need to get ready for school, right?”

“I guess so.” He frowned making his girlfriend laugh.

Lucky for them Gemma was gone by the time they were ready for school. Harry fixed them a quick breakfast before they had to leave, both hoping their awkward run in with Gemma would be forgotten by the time they returned home. During the drive Harry remembered his text from Craig, sometime today he had to go to the park then the fight was later that night. If he couldn't get out of it he had to tell Abigail where he was going, he didn't want to lie to her but he had a feeling he was going to have to.

Pulling into his usual spot he stopped Abigail as she was taking off her seatbelt. “Hey I need to talk to you about something.”

“Ok...go ahead.” She half-smiled, the words 'I need to talk' were never good.

Taking a deep breath he looked into her eyes. “I might not be at lunch. I have to meet Craig at the park, he has to talk to me about fighting.”

“I thought you were done.”

Shit. “I was but Craig needs me to fight this guy and he can't get anyone else. I just need to go meet him and work out a few out the details.”

Running her hand over his she nodded. “Ok, will I see you in Home Ec though?”

“Yeah, I'll be back by then. I just wanted to tell you so you won't be looking for me at lunch.”

“Babe, its fine, I trust you.” She smiled.

Ignoring his conscience he leaned over to give her a kiss. It was meant to be an innocent peck but her sweet scent urged him on. Pulling her closer her hands wrapped around the back of his neck while his crept towards her bum. He was close to dragging her over the console to straddle his lap. And with the way she moaned into his mouth he was sure she wouldn't mind.

Both jumped apart when they heard a loud thump on the hood of his car. Harry growled seeing his friends all standing around pointing at him. “Fucking dicks,” He mumbled opening the door.

“Oh hey Harry, didn't see you there.” Liam laughing.

“Shut the fuck up,” Harry seethed walking over to Abigail's side where she was slowly getting out, her hair covering her blushing face. “I'm sorry about them.”

“Its fine, they're supposed to embarrass you right?” She muttered.

“See! Abby gets it!” Louis exclaimed.

Rolling his eyes he reached down to take her hand in his. “Come on, I'll walk you to class.”

As they were walking away he was sure he heard one of them make a whipping sound making him give them the middle finger. By the time they reached her locker Abigail finally felt the embarrassment melt away. Harry kissed her cheek in front of her class earning a glare from a few girls but they didn't affect her like she thought they would. Whenever she was around Harry it was like everything else was insignificant, like it was just her and him. After he left her in her first period class she started to think about Harry fighting again. When she first saw him fight he clearly knew what he was doing but there were always bigger, tougher guys out there who could seriously hurt him. He was hurt bad enough after their disaster date at the bowling alley. She didn't want him to fight but she couldn't make that decision for him, she didn't want to be the nagging girlfriend. She had to be there him regardless, even if that meant cleaning his cuts in the bathroom after every fight.

Harry was anxious the whole morning before his meeting with Craig. He had texted him what time to meet him sometime during his History class earning him a scolding from his teacher for having his phone out during the lesson. As soon as the lunch bell rang he headed outside to his car, eager to get this meeting over and done with. He had a lot of questions that Craig better have answers for.

At the park he was surprised to see Craig's Hummer already sitting on the grass by a picnic table. Stepping out of his own car Harry noticed the older man sit down at the table. “Good to see you again Styles...”

“Cut to the chase,” Harry interrupted. “Who the hell is Ricky?”

“Now I don't know everything, he doesn't tell me what he doesn't what me to know but what I've gathered is he used to be one of the best poker players in Vegas. He never lost until one certain game then it was like a downward spiral. He lost everything, his mansion, his cars and there were people after him. Who? I haven't figured that out yet but he left Nevada and came here where he thought no one would find him.”

Nodding his head Harry spoke up. “Ok now what about the fights?”

“Well you see after a few months here he got bored. He had been so used to the big life he needed some of it back, that's where I came in. I was a struggling sophomore when I met him in a bar. We came up with this idea to make us both rich. We now how big fighting is, I mean look at MMA and UFC, so we figured just make our own version of it.”

“Why me? I'm sure there are better fighters out there that could do this. Why does he insist on me?”

“He likes you, Styles. I don't know why but you winning every time sure did help.”

“What if I lose tonight?”

“Ricky's become a powerful man around here, if you lose and cost him money he could do something very...damaging to you or someone you care about most. Its just how he is.” Craig cringed. “Trust me, I know what he's capable of.”

“What do you mean?”

Running a hand through his hair Craig sighed. “A while ago Ricky was getting greedy with winnings. I was pissed, we came up with this business together and he was shorting me my cut so I tried to leave. The next thing I know he's threatening my sister, putting a gun to her head.”

That was the last thing Harry needed to hear. Thoughts of Abigail injured or worse crept into his mind making him want to throw up. “So what you're saying is I have no choice?”

“I wish I could help but both of our hands are tied.”

Now it was clear Harry had to fight, even though it was the last thing he wanted to do. As he headed back to school he knew he had to convince Abigail to go with him. Just her being there would give him enough initiative to win. He needed her there for his own selfish reasons that he never knew he had until she came into his life taking over his mind and his heart.
