Los Angeles to London

Used

The doors opened up to a beautiful room, much too beautiful for an office. The floors where marble, the echo of my heels made me happy (I love the sound of heels hitting the ground). There was gorgeous wall paper along the walls, it reminded me of Rome, it was made to look like gold leaves, the wall paper could really go one of two ways, either extremely tacky or elegant. Burberry made it look elegant.

There was a massive desk just beyond the entrance to the elevator.

"Alex! So nice to meet you. I'm Louise." The lady from behind the desk said.

"Hi, nice to meet you too."I said walking toward her as I extended my hand. She shook it.

"Camilla has been expecting you, I'll show you to her."

We walked down the expansive hallway, we passed multiple doors before finally stopping at one. Louise knocked on the door before entering.

"Hello, everyone." She said with cheer. "Camilla, this is Alex." She said, motioning to me.

"Oh Alex!, it's so nice to finally see you in the flesh!" Camilla exclaimed. She walked over to me, I was expecting a hand shake but instead she went in for a hug. "I feel like I already know you." she said in my ear.

She stepped back, her hands on my upper arms, "You look stunning. I love your dress."

I chuckled nervously, "Thanks, it's from Zara."

"Ooh. Budget friendly. I like that." she said with a wink. "I guess we shouldn't waste anymore time, we can talk shopping later."

She removed her hands from my arms and stepped back. "Alex, this is the team. That over there is Marcus, the art director. Here we have Christopher, the designer. Over there is Ana, the head hair dresser, and lastly Cara, the face of Burberry." I felt a tightening of my throat, I was standing in the same room as Cara, Harry's ex girlfriend. "Team this is Alex Leon." They all said hello.

I smiled at everyone, my gaze lingering a little longer on Cara. Cara and I could not look anymore different, it was safe to say that Harry didn't have a type. I was not tall, blonde, or very skinny. I was on the shorter side, 5'6, I had brown hair, and I was much curvier than Cara. Cara was probably a size 0, where as I was a size 6/8. Suddenly I started to feel self conscience. I tried to shake it off, then my thoughts where interrupted by the sound of Camilla's voice.

"Together we will be coming up with the set design of the show and most importantly how the hair and makeup will look for fashion week." With that Camilla motioned for me to take a seat next to Cara. I sat down, placing my purse on the table.

"So I was thinking that we could just leave the girls hair very straight and flat." said Ana.

Christopher spoke next, "I like that idea, I don't want the hair or the makeup to take away from the soft and feminine look of the clothes."

Christopher turned to me "Do you have any ideas for how you think the makeup should look?"

I cleared my throat. "Actually I was had an idea, but since we're going to go with plain hair, maybe we should go for plain makeup as well. Like, we could make the skin flawless with only a subtle highlight on the cheeks and a nude lip, but not a nude lip that is pale and washes the girls out, but a nude lip that matches each individual models skin exactly. We could take the subtle highlight and apply it the only the center of the lips, you know to make them appear a little fuller. And as far as the eyes, I was thinking we could smudge the tiniest amount of brown or black shadow in to the lash line and then apply mascara only to the top lashes." I stopped, realizing I was talking a lot and talking fast at that. Damn it, being from California everyone talks fast, sometimes I have to remind myself that not everyone talks at the speed of light.

I stared at them, waiting for a response. I felt awkward. A few seconds went by before Christopher spoke, "I love it! Can we do a test run?"

Oh good, I hadn't completely lost them on my idea. "Yeah! I'd love to."

We left the room we where in and went to a different room, they called it the "Art Studio". There was fantastic lighting, about a million different hair products and hair tools, as well as a TON of Burberry makeup.

Cara took a seat on one of the makeup chairs, she pulled her hair back into a ponytail. I felt awkward doing her makeup since I knew her and Harry shared a past, but he told me it wasn't serious, so I tried my best to brush it off. But I did wonder if she knew about Harry and I. I finished her makeup and stepped back so everyone else could see.

"Wonderful!" Christopher said clapping. "I love it. Now, Ana show me what you've got."

I stepped away letting Ana do her thing to Cara's hair. I walked over to where my purse was and pulled out my phone. I had a text from Harry.

'Just checking to see how things are going. Text me when you can. xx -H'

I quickly replied.

'Things are going good, Christopher really liked my idea for the makeup for fashion week. Gotta go, I'll text you later. xx'

I returned to the group just as Ana finished with Cara's hair.

"I love it, but maybe instead of the side part we could do a middle part." Christopher said to Ana.

"Of course." she agreed.

Just then Louise entered the room, "Camilla, Jeffrey is here to see you, he's waiting in your office. And, Ana you have a call on line one."

"Thank you Louise." Camilla and Ana both said, they each left the room.

At that moment Christopher pulled Marcus to the other side of the expansive room to talk about the runway design. I was stuck there, just me and Cara. I really hadn't said anything to her since I had met her that morning.

Cara looked over to me. She smiled and then spoke "Maybe this isn't my place, but I saw a picture of you and Harry on the front page of the newspaper yesterday morning, and you seem like a sweet girl, so I just want to give you a word of warning. Harry will promise you the world and he won't deliver." My mind instantly went to the conversation I had with Harry in his car just the day before when he told me that the only thing that mattered was us, and how he wanted to be able to take me out whenever he wanted, how he wanted to be with me. "Maybe his intentions with you are different, but I wouldn't hold my breath, he hasn't be serious about anyone before. He'll make you feel special, like your the only girl in the world, but just as fast as he makes you feel that way, he'll take it away. So just watch yourself."

I didn't know what to say. I looked at her for a minute longer before replying. "Thanks for the advice, but Harry and I aren't together, we're friends, we met on the flight over here and we are just getting to know one another."

"Well you could have fooled me, you know there are pictures of you guys snogging right? But maybe you do that with all of your friends." she said coldly.

Before I could say anything Camilla walked back in the room, "Guys I think we're finished for the day. I have some things I have to take care of. Alex, I'll be emailing you later with the rest of your schedule for this week."

I nodded. "Ok."

I didn't want to be rude, but I really couldn't be in that room with Cara anymore. I grabbed my purse and walked out. I went to the restroom, I searched for my phone. Once I retrieved it I dialed Harry's number.

He answered after a few rings.

"Hello?"
"Harry? Harry, I'm finished over here, can you come get me?" I said, trying to mask the annoyance in my voice.

"Yeah, I'm actually on my way there, I'll be there soon."
"Ok, great." I said, hanging up my phone.

I exited the bathroom, making my way to the elevator, the doors where about to close when the person inside stopped them, I stepped forward. Shit, it was Cara.

I walked into the elevator, trying to avoid eye contact. We stood there in an awkward silence for a few seconds before she spoke. "Looking back on our conversation I came across a bit rude, I apologize, but I thought I should warn you before you waist your time, like I did."

I looked up at her. I couldn't take it anymore so I let her have it. "You know what's funny is that you stand here saying that you wasted your time with Harry, that he did you wrong, well he told me about you. He told me that things with you where just casual, and that he was just killing time. So before you tell me that you're just doing me a favor I would reevaluate what you and Harry had. And actually to me it sounds like you're hung up on him. Well, news flash he's over you. And I feel bad for you actually, because the Harry that you know is completely different from the Harry I know. And I'm not going to let your comments about him influence my opinion on him. What ever he did to you is in the past, and last time I checked this is the present. So you can just take your comments and shove them where the sun doesn'tshine. Unfortunately for me I'm going to have to work with you, so yeah I'll be nice to you at work, but as far as anywhere else, you don't even exist." I finished talking just as the doors opened. I didn't even stop to look at her expression, I just walked away. I waved to Poppy on my way out the door.

Thank god Harry was already waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs. I climbed into the car and breathed a sigh of relief.

"Long day?" He asked.

"You have no idea."

Notes

Oooohhh drama!! I hope you enjoyed, let me know what you think. Was Cara actually doing Alex a favor, or was she just being bitter? Did Alex overact? Only time will tell. Look out for chapter 9 coming tomorrow. :)
