I didn’t do much that weekend. I endured my mother scolding me for coming home so late after my curfew and was not allowed out on Saturday night. It was pretty miserable. I spent it suffering from a terrible hangover, watching scary movies and catching up on some work for school. On Sunday night I had to go out to dinner with my mom and a few other family members that were visiting for the weekend and on Monday I was back to school. ‘I can’t wait until this is over,’ I told myself as I walked out to the car and drove to school.

The school day moved slowly again, and after years, as it seemed to me, I was in last period. I walked in and Harry’s seat was empty. I didn’t remember much about what happened after the party, but I remember he drove me home and then I wouldn’t shut up. I groaned silently as I thought of the dumb things I probably said to him while I was completely out of it. When I’m wasted, I say a lot of stupid things. I don’t really stop talking. I hope I didn’t embarrass myself too badly.

Class began and about twenty minutes in, as I was taking notes, Harry came into class. He was wearing a white shirt and black jeans that were ripped at the knees and blue vans. He looked really good.

“Why are you late?” Ms. Camp asked him.

“Sorry,” he mumbled, not really giving an excuse as he walked towards the seat in front of me. As he sat down, he winked at me.

There was a half hour more of class and then the final bell rang. I finished copying the last few questions and then packed up. When I looked up, Harry was waiting for me.

“Yes?” I asked when he was staring.

“Come on, then,” he gestured towards the door. I followed him.

“Why’d you wait for me?”

“How are you?” he asked, ignoring my question.

“Fine,” I told him. “What happened on Friday night? Did you drive my car?”

“Yeah,” he chuckled. I went over to the side of the hall to stop at my locker. He stood against the one next to mine, facing towards me. “You were a mess.”

“Thanks,” I said, rolling my eyes.

“It was kind of hot,” he said out of nowhere. I turned to look at him quickly.

“What?”

“Yeah, it kind of took everything inside of me not to take advantage of you,” he continued. What the fuck?

“Get away from me, Harry,” I slammed the locker shut. “I thought you were nice, too. Actually, I was the only one in the entire school who thought you were nice.”

“Wait, wait,” Harry said, almost running after me as I walked away from him. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.”

“I wouldn’t have even done anything with you,” I told him, walking towards the exit.

“I know, I’m sorry,” he told me. I ignored him as I walked towards the parking lot. He followed me. “Emma, wait.”

His tone was kind of harsh so I actually stopped and turned to him. “What?”

“I’m sorry, okay? I was joking,” he said.

“It’s fine, Harry,” I said.

“Don’t be mad,” he grinned.

“I’m not!” I said, faking a smile.

“You wanna hang out later?” he asked me out of nowhere.

“Uh, maybe,” I said.

“Come on, it’ll be fun,” he said.

“Fine,” I said.

Harry actually seemed pretty cool. Despite the rumors and the fact he doesn’t think before he speaks or acts, he’s cute, and has a slight sense of humor.

“I’ll pick you up at midnight,” he told me.

“What? No you won’t,” I laughed.

“Yeah I will,” he continued. “There’s nothing fun to do during the day.”

“Um, live, maybe?” I said. He laughed.

“I’ll keep you safe,” he told me. “I did last night.”

“I don’t know, Harry,” I groaned. “If I get caught-“

“You need to stop worrying about getting in trouble,” he interrupted me. “You only have a few months of high school left so just do something fun for once in your life?”

“I’ve done something fun before,” I defended myself, but in reality, I haven’t. I’ve been to parties and everything but nothing else. “I’ll go.”

“Good,” he grinned. “I’ll see you at midnight, then.”
