Business Proposal

Spar with a member of my new family

Mel POV
The buzz around their entry died fairly quickly as harry’s friends came up to greet them and to be introduced to Mel.
“Hello, I am Liam and this is my girlfriend, Sophie.”Mel gave them both hugs before being pulled into another hug by someone with a curly long hair.
“Hi, you must be Rose. I am Eleanor but El for short. And I am Louis, harry favourite mate.”
“I am Perrie, Zayn’s Fiancée,” she said pointing to the guy standing next to harry.
“You must be the new addition to our family,” said a voice coming from behind her back. Mel heart stopped as she turned around to face the voice, but came face-to-face guy with blonde hair and blue eyes.
“Hello, I am Melrose, but Mel for short.”
“Yeah I know. And I am Niall,” as he pulled her into another hug.
She was growing used to the surprised looks on their faces when they look over at her, and just smiled politely.
Many of Harry’s acquaintances and society matrons came up to greet her and while many of them pointed out how different she was from harry’s usual women. Mel couldn’t figure out if it was a compliment or not.
After some time, Mel decided that she had being hanging beside harry for too long and she needed some breathing room, because harry was a lot to take in. He was an amazing combination of gorgeous, entertaining conversation and good manners. If she wasn’t careful, she’d be thinking that she was head-over-heels in love with him by the end of the evening. And given the lack of a heart, predatory nature, and overall businesslike attitude toward their marriage that would be a complete disaster.
So she excused herself from harry’s side, and headed toward the ladies’ room to buy some freedom. She took a glass of champagne from a passing waiter’s tray and walked over to one of the open windows that looked over the city. It was a beautiful view, she thought, just as she felt someone come up to stand beside her.
Mel knew immediately who the woman was. She turned to face the ideal of discontent that was Mrs. Styles.
“So you’re Harry’s latest.” The woman fired off, managing to look down her nose at Mel and give the appearance that she was ignoring her completely.
“I’m Melrose Jameson, Mrs. Styles. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Harry tells me that he was a fool enough to marry you,” the woman sniffed.
Mel laughed to herself. Harry had warned her that his aunty would be difficult, but he may have understated the situation. She wasn’t intimidated, and laughing seemed preferable to crying or getting angry.
“Well, if he put it that way, we’re already in trouble,” Mel smiled. “But yes, we married about seven weeks ago. I’ve been urging him to have you and his sister over one evening for dinner. I think I’ve almost worn him down.”
“I don’t need my nephew’s gold-digging wife to invite me to his home,” the woman said with a laugh.
Mel took a sip of her champagne, and looking around the room, hoping for some escape, but nothing seemed to be coming, so she sighed and prepared herself for another incoming volley. She didn’t need to wait that long.
“I hope my nephew had you sign a pre-nuptial agreement.”
“Of course.”
“That good because you’ll not get a penny from him when he divorces you.”
Mel quickly recovered from her shocked and burst out laughing, to the immense surprise of her new aunty-in-law, looking straight into her eyes, Mel simply stated, “Mrs. Styles, you are a piece of work. Look, you nephew and I married. I’m not ready to divorce him yet and neither is he, but you can feel free to ask him.”
Mel realised that any woman that harry had dated before had probably gotten this same third degree.
“What kind of a person are you?” the woman asked.
So Mel shrugged. “That, Mrs. Styles, is exactly why you should get to know me.”
“Women are always after harry’s money.”
“That may be the case. But don’t assume that any woman who is with Harry is interested in his wealth? I find that insulting for Harry’s sake. I’ve dated rich men before, Mrs. Styles. None of them hold standards like your nephew.” Mel said this mildly.
“Do you date wealthy men?” the woman asked disdainfully.
“My last serious boyfriend was a case worker,” Mel smiled. “What about you? Did you marry Harry’s uncle for his money?”
Mel figures out that the shock from the woman, that she had hit her target. The woman managed to close her frown, and say, “My dear, you have no idea who you dealing with.”
“Oh, but I do,” Mel said quietly. “You came from humble beginnings, and married a very wealthy man. And maybe that’s why you assume that everyone who dates your nephew is in for the very same thing-money.” This lady must have a wrong opinion about Harry is wrong. He is far more than a titanium card with American express. He is a good man with a good heart, so despite with unemotional involvement in their marriage.
“Do you love him?” the woman challenged her.
“That is between your nephew and me. And I know exactly how he feels about m e and that’s....”

Harry POV
Harry was getting worried about Rose since she was too the mushroom. Everyone was asking about her and the questions where hard to answer with her by my side.
He decided to look for her, making his way toward the mushroom area, he noticed Rose was having a heated conversation with his aunty Claire.
He didn’t know what the conversation what about when he answered. “....More than a lot of people can say.”
Harry walking up toward Rose, and then slipped his arm around her waist and placed a kiss on her cheek. “I keep waiting for you to return from the mushroom. So how are you two getting along?”
Both Rose and Aunty Claire were quiet and he could tell by the emotions running across Rose, tell him that he had interrupt their conversation that needed answers.
He caught Rose staring at his aunty before looking up at him. “I kind of like your aunty. She says what she thinks. And she’s not a two-face.”
Harry eyebrows went up when his aunty nodded her mouth still grim. “I would give your wife the benefit of the doubt.”
With a slight smile at Rose and a nod toward harry, she spun around and stalked off, leaving both of them in silence.
“Did you just do what I think you did?”
“I don’t know. What do you think I did?”
“Impressed my aunty Claire.”
He could tell by the released of her breathe, that Rose what kind of scared, but put up a brave face.
“I doubt that. I think that she’s either running off to clean her shotgun. She’s very protective of you but in a scary way.”
“Protective.” Harry knew that when he moved to America to stay with his Uncle and his wife, he was like a son to them. But he never understands his aunty scary behaviour toward his normal girlfriends, but Rose had helped him to understand aunty Claire motives.
“Yeah. I’m not impressed with her pit bull behaviour, she just making sure that no woman is taking advantage over you. So go talk to her.
Harry just looked at her and shook his head.
“Hey, do I need to worry about your sister too?”
At that, harry chuckled. “Not really. Gwen is over by the bar, trying to blend in. She hates these things.”
“In the purple dress?” Rose asked
“Yes.”
“Ok. See you later,” she smiled before walking towards his sister.
While making his way to hunt down his aunty, Rose called out his name as she walked toward him.
She stood on her heels and gave him a sweet peak on his lips before going.
Harry was shocked and he needed answers for that kiss.
