The Happiest Place On Earth

"It all started a year ago..." Kaylani kept her eyes closed briefly as she started to speak. She was about to tell five boys she had just met the entire story of why she was so messed up. She was about to relive memories she tried desperately to forget. She loved to reminisce on the good times, but she always tried to forget the bad memories. This was only making them resurface.

"Kaylani, hurry your slow ass up! We need to beat the traffic and get to Indiana Jones ASAP!" The two girls had just finished watching the World of Color at Disney's California Adventure. They were now busting a mission to get to Indiana Jones before being pushed further back into the mass of bodies that were trying to get to Disneyland as well.

"I'm right behind you!" Kaylani placed a hand on her best friends shoulder. She knew that if she didn't hurry, Al would bite her head off. The two were walking so fast, and carelessly that Alanis stumbled over her own two legs causing Kaylani to bump into her and fall over; however, she was caught by the guy walking next to her.

"Woah, careful." Kaylani looked up and was met by the most gorgeous pair of blue eyes she had ever seen. It was a teenage boy who looked to be about her age and he was smiling brightly at her.

"Sorry, my best friend here is a klutz and tripped over her own feet causing me to run into her... and you. Thanks for catching me though." Kaylani was standing back up now, completely ignoring the fact that her best friend was still sitting on the floor.

"Hello?! A little help would be nice!" Kaylani snapped out of her gaze with the handsome boy and helped her best friend up. "Sorry, it was my fault she ran into you. I'm Alanis."

"Hey, I'm Ryan." The two waved at each other before Ryan turned his gaze back to Kaylani.

"I'm Kaylani." Ryan took his time to look at the girl fully. She had long brown hair, falling to her lower back and chocolate brown eyes.

"It's nice to meet you." He smiled at them both. "Where are you ladies headed to? You looked like you were in a fire." Ryan laughed slightly. He had been watching the girls make their way through the crowd. They looked like a couple of ninjas the way the manouvered through everyone. He could tell they came there a lot because they didn't waste any time and they knew how to make their way through the crowd.

"We come here a lot, so we know how to walk through the crowds." Kaylani chuckled as she remembered the last time they were at the park. "We're actually headed to Indiana Jones. How about you?" She had noticed that no one was standing around waiting for him, so she let her curiousity take over. "Are you here with anyone?"

"I knew you were locals! I could tell by how you walked." Ryan smiled at the girls when he saw Alanis was simply standing there smirking. "I'm actually headed to Indiana too and no I'm not here with anyone. My brother was with me earlier but he went home a little while ago."

"Perfect. Why don't you join us?" Alanis had finally spoken up. She was originally just watching Kaylani swoon over the guy in front of them. She could already tell something was going to happen between the two, and she would make sure of it.

Kaylani snapped back to reality after having a flashback from when she first met Ryan. "Alanis and I were at Disneyland trying to get to Indiana Jones when Al stopped causing me to literally run into someone. It ended up being Jake's twin brother Ryan, but Jake had just gone home and Ryan decided he wanted to stay a little longer. We ended up hanging out the rest of the day until the park closed at midnight. Long story short, I fell for him. He was perfect for me. So we exchanged numbers and text each other that night. We found out that we lived only a couple streets away from each other so the next day we hung out. It was like that for a while. We would hang out almost every day. That's how Al and I met Jake. Well after a while Ryan asked me out and of course I said yes. Nothing ever came between us and we always talked out our problems - our relationship was perfect. He was always there for me, and he always knew how to make me smile or laugh." Kaylani's eyes started to glaze over. She fixed her attention to a spot on the carpet so she wouldn't look anyone in the eyes as she choked back tears. She felt one roll down her cheek as she continued talking. "We had been going out for a little over 6 months when he showed up at my door one day. I was happy to see him but I could tell he was hiding something."

At this point, Jake and Alanis had lumps in their throats. It was just as hard getting used to Ryan not being there for them as it was for Kay. All of them had lost a best friend, and Jake lost his brother. They both swallowed back their tears as they listened to Kaylani continue with her story.

"He walked in and started sobbing. He told me he didn't mean for me to find out this way, but he had to tell me before it got too far. He didn't want to hurt me, and he knew that if he didn't tell me, it would eat him up alive. We talked for hours, and it ended with me crying in his arms and him crying in mine." Kaylani had to stop speaking because by this point she was sobbing. "He came there to tell me he had cancer and it was getting worse. He had known for a while but didn't want to tell me because the doctors said it looked good and that he was going to be okay because they caught it in time. Well it ended up being the opposite. They told him that it was getting worse and they didn't know how long he had left. So from that day forward we were inseperable. I would cry myself to sleep not knowing if he was going to wake up the next day. He made me promise that no matter what happens, I'll always take care of myself and I'll try to be happy."

Jake and Alanis had moved so they were sitting on opposite sides of her. The three of them were crying together, arms wrapped around each other. Kaylani couldn't continue speaking because by this point she was starting to hyperventalate because of how hard she was crying. Jake wasn't full on crying, he was just letting tears fall down his face silently, so he decided to speak for her.

"He died a little while ago. He fought it for as long as he could, but it was too strong." Alanis had stood up and taken Kaylani to her room. Kay needed to calm down and sleep, or she would choke on her tears again and have a panic attack. Once he heard Kaylani's door shut, he turned to face the guys. He knew he needed to finish speaking. "Harry, that's why she reacted the way she did when she kissed you earlier. She never actually broke up with Ryan so she never got closure. They were madly in love and he was taken away from her. She feels like she can't be happy with any other guy because she'll be betraying him. But, I can see the way you look at each other."

Harry had a knot in his chest. Seeing Kaylani the way he did... she looked like a wreck. He couldn't believe what had happened to her. He completely understood why she reacted like that now. She never got a proper goodbye, so she will always love Ryan. Harry could feel himself developing feelings for Kaylani. Everything about her was inviting. Every little detail made him smile. He wanted to pick her up in his arms and hold her. He just wanted to let her know that everything would be okay, and that she deserves to be happy. It was seeing Kaylani like that, that made him promise himself he would do whatever it took to make her happy again.

"I promise to do whatever I can to make her happy again. I know she'll always love Ryan, and I accept that. But seeing her like that... it kills me. I know I've only known her for a day, but I can't help it. There's something about her that has me falling hard and fast." Harry was sincere with every word he spoke.

The other four boys of One Direction exchanged a glance before Louis addressed Jake. "We'll help too. It's only been one day, but she's a really amazing girl. She deserves to be happy. Plus, I've never seen Harry speak like that about a girl after knowing her for a day." Louis knew his best friend like the back of his hand and he knew that Harry very rarely spoke about his feelings to someone he had literally just met. And he always the truth, so when he said he liked Kaylani, he meant it. The other boys nodded their head in agreement.

"Thank you. Alanis and I are going to need all the help we can get. Last time she slipped into a depression and Al and I got through to her with seconds to spare. We can't let her go into a dark place again. We're really going to need your help, but I have a feeling out of all of us the one person who's going to be able to help her the most is you Harry."

Harry looked up and met the gaze of the teenage boy. He saw truth and sincerety hidden within his eyes. He gave a small smile towards the boy before speaking. "I promise, I will do whatever it takes to make her happy again." And he meant every word.
