New York

Chapter 15: New York

I woke up the next morning from the sun trying to peek into the window of the hotel room. I quickly noticed that Harry’s arm was still wrapped securely around my waist. I knew he was still sleeping because of the deep and husky breaths tickling in my ear. I turned over carefully not wanting to wake him up. I was successful, and couldn’t help but notice how serene he looked while he slept. He was so peaceful compared to his usual goofy and random conscious personality. I brought my hand over his face gently caressing him. My fingers soon inched up to his hair, and I tousled his soft curls.

The room was quiet, in fact, the whole suite was quiet. I assumed everyone was still recovering from the night on the town. Then I heard Harry begin to whisper something. It was faint so the only word I could make out was, “Mads.” I smiled at the thought of him dreaming about me. I kissed him lightly on his cheek.

Then Harry’s green eyes blinked open slightly as he half smiled. “What was that for?” His voice sounded gruff from just waking, but I found it rather sexy.

I smiled back and replied, “You said my name.”

His cheeks began to turn a pale shade of pink. “Oh, yeah… I’ve been told I talk in my sleep.”

I giggled, “I think it’s adorable.”

We lied there quietly as Harry slowly became more and more conscious. Then he looked deep into my eyes when he spoke, “I’ve wanted this for a long time.”

Being a bit confused I asked, “Wanted what?”

He coolly replied, “Just to cuddle up with someone I deeply care about at night. I’ve just been so tired of feeling alone.”

He gently reached over to kiss me on the lips before I could reply, rather cheekily, “Well it’s good to know I am better than a pillow.”

He laughed before climbing on top of me in a tackle and pinning me down, “How did ya know I cuddle with my pillows?”

I smiled, “…because I do the same thing.”

Harry rested more of his weight on top of me as he leaned down to kiss me. The kiss only lasted a few seconds, but I could tell how much meaning there was behind it. Harry then climbed down and off the bed and held out his hand, “Come on. Let’s get some breakfast.” I got out of the bed as gracefully as possible and tiptoed to my bag to grab my jeans from the previous night. As I slipped them on I looked to Harry as he just rolled his eyes. “As if they care what you are wearing. I guarantee Perrie is only wearing one of Zayn’s t-shirts.”

“Oh, whatever.” I said as I pushed him out the door.

I was surprised to see the rest of the group all out there eating breakfast. They were so quiet. I was sure they were all in bed, I looked over to the clock on the wall, and it read 12:13PM.

Louis cheekily shouted, “Ah, the newest of lovebirds finally grace us with their presence! Must’a been one hell of a night?”

Harry smiled, “Shut up, Lou.”

I couldn’t believe how late it was. I was still rather groggy and could have sworn it was only 8:00AM. The group was all sitting around our large dining room table, which sat eight people perfectly. There was all sorts of breakfast foods on the table and I didn’t know how any of them made it. We didn’t have groceries.

My question was answered by Niall who had a mouth full of food, “I love room service!”

Everyone laughed. Liam stated, “You love anything that provides you with food, ya git.” We all laughed harder, even Niall who just nodded his head agreeing.

The rest of breakfast we all chatted about what we did during the night. From the sounds of it, everyone had an eventful night. Louis and Eleanor spent the entire night dancing goofy, which Harry and I could relate to, Zayn and Perrie spent the night in a corner talking and catching up, while Niall and Liam were each other’s wing people trying to talk to girls, although I didn’t think either one really needed a wing person.

When we were finished I asked to the group, “What’s on the agenda today?” I recieved sort of weird looks from everyone.

Zayn answered while curling his arm around Perrie, “I guess we all just are kind of going to go out on our own today.”

I nodded my head and turned towards Harry. He was grinning at me, “Don’t worry Mads. I’ve got the whole day planned for us.”

Louis then stated, “Alrighty. We’ll just meet back here before we head to the airport at 9 tonight, yeah?”

I hadn’t noticed but everyone else was already ready for the day. They all said their parting ways as they left the suite alone to Harry and me. We walked back into our room where I reported to Harry, “I am happy I dressed a bit more in my jeans. They were all already ready to go out for the day!”

Harry walked over to embrace me in a hug before pulling away and cheekily replying, “I know, I just wanted to see more of you in just that t-shirt.” I slapped his arms off me. “Ooh ow!” he said sarcastically.

I smiled at him, “You deserved that.”

I grabbed my bag and headed into the bathroom to get myself ready. I looked like such a mess. I had no make-up on, my hair was in shambles, and I am pretty sure my breath reeked. I was just happy Harry and everyone else was kind enough not to make any snarky remarks about it. I felt slightly embarrassed.

When I thought I looked presentable again I exited the bathroom and re-entered the bedroom to find Harry dressed in another outfit similar to the previous night. “You’re going to be Marcel again today?” I asked.

He nodded his head, “Mmhm! If I plan to keep protecting you with this secret, I have to. More today than last night because, you see, the people we encounter today won’t be drunk off their arses.”

I laughed at him, but he had a valid point. A few minutes later we were ready to go and we left the room, me on the arm of a boy named, “Marcel.”

As we exited the building and climbed into a cab I asked, “Where are we going?”

He coolly smiled, “I thought to start our day we would just walk a few blocks down town.” I nodded my head in excitement.

The cab randomly stopped at some street corner to let us out. Harry paid the driver and helped me out of the car. “Shall we?” he asked in the weirdest voice ever. I gave him a strange, yet happy, look as we began our stroll through the city.

We walked in and out of a few really cute shops. I was pleasantly surprised that Harry didn’t push me to hurry as I browsed. “You are really patient.”

He looked at me with a content gaze, “I have a sister… named Gemma. I grew up doing this sort of thing with her all the time. I would say that it is because of her… that I know how to treat a lady.”

I had never thought about it before, but right then, I realized how much he must miss his family.

I smiled reassuringly, “Well I would have to agree with you. You are absolutely amazing, like something out of a story book.”

He looked down at the ground and had to push his glasses back up to his face, “I wouldn’t go as far to say that.”

I grabbed his face, “It’s the truth though….You must be really close to your family.”

He nodded his head. “I always miss them. It’s hard to be away from for these long periods of time.”

I slipped my arms around him and looked up into his eyes, “I know how you feel… well kind of. You see, I go to school away from home, so I only see them in the summer and holidays mostly… but I suppose you see yours even less.”

He gave a half smile, “I love how you understand this Mads. Not too many people realize how seldom we are home, and what kind of toll that takes on the lads and me.” I nodded my head and pulled him in closer. A normal Harry hug usually lasted for about ten seconds, this one lasted for a good few minutes. I never felt closer to him. He then reached down to kiss me on the lips.

We were interrupted by one of the store workers, “Hey! You can’t do that in here! This is a public place!” Harry pulled his lips away from mine revealing a devilish smile.

He grabbed my hand and started leading me towards the exit, “I am very sorry ma’m.” he said in his nerdy voice. We rounded the corner and just had a laughing attack. I couldn’t believe I practically got kicked out of a store for kissing someone. It was so… unlike me, but I didn’t mind. Harry did something to me, made me forget about my surroundings so the only thing I could focus on was him. He always just took my breath away.

When we were finished laughing we began walking again. Harry laced my hand with his as I looked up at him to say, “I can officially cross getting kicked out of a store for apparently excessive displays of affection off my bucket list.”

He chuckled a bit and added, “Also…dating a pop star.” I smiled, “Right you are.”

We were walking quite a ways chatting about everything going on around us. I noticed a few girls in passing were sporting 1D t-shirts. I thought to myself, “If they only knew how close they were to one of them.” I couldn’t help but feel a bit bad, because if it weren’t for me, Harry would probably meet them and make their entire lives… I tried to put that thought out of my head, I needed to just take my time with him while I had it.

We rounded another corner and Harry stopped us. “What’s wrong?” I asked.

He smiled, “Look where we are Mads!” I looked out and realized, “We’re in Time Square!”

We began walking again because I was pulling Harry so I could take it all in a bit more. I was totally captivated. I was able to barely whisper out, “Coming here is something you always dream about when you see pictures, but seeing it in person…the pictures do it no justice.”

I turned to look at Harry to see his expression, but he was just grinning at me. “Come on.”

He said as he lead me further into the crowd. While we were running I half shouted, “Har-Marcel, what are we doing?”

Then we suddenly stopped, he pointed and said, “Mads, look!” My eyes looked out from where he was pointing.

There was a sign flashing that read: Marcel is falling for Mads.

I looked back to Harry with a tear forming in my eyes. He swiped it away from my face and asked, “Do you like it?”

Even with those nerd glasses on, his green orbs were piercing into my heart. I smiled, “Of course I do.”

I was then embraced by Harry’s arms and his lips were touching mine. I quickly wrapped my arms around him, rubbing up and down his spine. We stood there letting time slow down as the world continued to rush around us. The truth was, I was falling for Harry too, in fact, I think I already had long before that moment.

Leaving Times Square wasn’t something I really wanted to do. It was the most perfect moment I knew I would never forget.

We climbed into another cab, rather close to each other this time. “What now?” I asked smiling.

He pondered the thought for a few seconds before replying, “How about a movie?”

We arrived at the theater and Harry asked, “What movie do you want to see Mads?”

I looked at the list and turned back to him with a smile, “How about Monster’s University.”

He shook his head a bit as he laughed, “Whatever you want, love.

” I smiled and walked up to tell the attendant which movie we wanted to see. The worker was probably our age or a little younger and she was looking at Harry a bit suspiciously.

Harry tried not to make eye contact with her, but she stated anyways, “You look so… familiar.”

He quickly shook his head and replied in his high voice, “Really, that’s strange?”

We got loads of popcorn and a drink to share between us. As we walked to out theater I asked, “Have you seen the first one? It came out when we were still fairly young.”

He thought about this question, “I think I might have. Like a long time ago. I love watching Disney movies though.” I smiled, “Good!”

We sat in the theater waiting for it to start. There were actually quite a few people. Most were families with their little kids and a then a few other couples like Harry and me. I turned to Harry, “When was the last time you went to a movie?”

He stared blankly at me for a few seconds and said, “Honestly Mads… I can’t remember.”

I suddenly felt terrible… Harry’s life was turned upside down, mostly for the best, but I think he truly did miss out on so many little things. I immediately grabbed his hand in mine and he stroked my knuckles with his hand. I then realized something. “Har…umm.. Marcel, I know you can show me the world.. but I’d like to re-introduce all the amazing little things to you.”

He smiled to me, “You already have started.” I nuzzled my head into the crook of his head as the trailers began to play.

A few went by in kind of a blur, but then I heard the familiar guitar strum of a very familiar song, “Live While You’re Young.” I immediately turned to Harry. His eyebrows rose and his smile spread across his face. I had completely forgotten the boys had a movie coming out in a few months! It was a teaser trailer, but it showed the boys goofing off and performing, up close, much like I have been experiencing the few weeks. The crowd in the theater was bouncing all over. Little kids were singing along swooning over their favorite boy, I heard one girl even scream out, “I love you Harry!” as his face flashed across the screen. Harry was enjoying the reaction from everyone.

I smiled at him, “How’s that?”

He smiled back before whispering, “A bit strange.”

The movie soon started and everyone fell quiet yet again. The movie was so adorable. I’m pretty sure I smiled the whole time.

I think the truth is, you are never too old for a Disney movie, but right before the movie ended, Harry stood up and said, “I’ll be back.”

It was a little strange being that the movie was about to end, but I shrugged it off. The ending was perfect. I waited in the theater thinking Harry would come back in… but when he didn’t I got suspicious. I decided to walk out. Then I saw a huge hoard of girls standing in a circle making a huge scene, and I knew what Harry had done. His hair was its usual messy self, the glasses and sweater vest were nowhere to be seen, and he had the button-up shirt sleeves rolled and un-done at the top revealing his little birdy tattoos. He was Harry Styles again. He was signing autographs, taking pictures, and hugging fans. It was a really sweet gesture for him to do after seeing the reaction from the crowd for their trailer.

I decided to join the crowd. I finally forced my way in front of Harry where he smiled and said, “Hullo beautiful.”

I laughed under my breath a bit, “Hi there.”

I handed him my movie ticket and he asked, “So what’s your name?” I told him, just to keep up the charade, and he signed the ticket.

I walked away to read: Meet out back in 5mins. I smiled and headed towards the exit when I saw Harry trying to get to the restrooms. I laughed as a few girls tried to follow him in, but the theater attendants shoved them back.

As soon as I rounded the corner of the theater I saw Harry, Marcel rather, climbing out the window. He waved his arm in his direction as I began to run towards him. We exited the alley way from the other side and began walking nonchalantly down the street.

I giggled as I asked, “What’s next?”

He pushed his glasses back up his face and replied, “How about dinner?”

We took another taxi to a fancy restaurant. He was always taking me to these ritzy places. I had a rather uneasy look on my face when he asked, “Mads, what’s wrong?”

I shook my head, “Everywhere you take me is just… so expensive.”

He laughed while looking back up to the restaurant sign, “I… just wanted to impress you.”

I nudged him in the shoulder, “I don’t need all these fancy things to me impressed by you, I just need you.”

He smiled and kissed me gently before taking my hand and dragging me away from where we stood. We walked a few blocks before Harry seemed to know where we were going. We ended up at this little hot dog stand overlooking the water. Even though it wasn’t fancy, it had a romantic appeal to it. Although, most anything I did with Harry felt romantic.

We chowed down on a few hot dogs as we chatted about the day’s events. “It was really sweet what you did today for your fans at the theater.” I gushed.

He looked out to the water and said, “It was just paining me to know they were so close to me, and they didn’t even know it. I knew I had to do something. They are just so incredibly devoted to us.” He looked back to me as I nodded my head.

I cracked a smile, “I can see that.” We continued talking about other things like our families and friends back home when all of a sudden fireworks started exploding over the water. My mouth dropped in awe and I ran over to the railing along with most of the other people sitting around. Harry was quick to follow and soon was standing behind me with his arms wrapped around my front and his chin resting on my shoulder. Everyone was taking pictures of the fireworks, and it really was a perfect sight. It was amazing how they lite up the entire night sky.

When they ended we checked the time, it was nearly time to head back to the hotel to meet the rest of the group. We decided to walk a bit, not being in too much of a rush. I loved the feeling of Harry’s hand laced with mine. We were walking side by side, with our bodies knocking into each other. It felt like something out of a movie.

Then, out of nowhere, Harry threw me and himself into a side alleyway. I’m not sure how we always seemed to find our way into them. He trapped me up against the wall and whispered, “I just need to kiss you right now.”

I nodded as his face leaned closer and closer towards mine. At first he gently grazed my top lip with his. Then, they began to last longer and longer. I grabbed his arms that were still bracing the wall for support and began to slowly creep my hands up towards his face. Soon his tongue was dancing with mine, sending my head into whirlwinds. I didn’t realize what I was doing and grabbed his Marcel glasses from his face and threw them to the ground. The gap between us soon closed and our arms were embracing each other. I could sense people walking by, but not enough to care. It was just another perfect moment with Harry.

We pulled apart just enough for me to check my phone for the time. It read 8:45 PM. Harry’s face was still very close to mine when I practically shouted, “Oh no, Harry! We lost track of time!” He immediately grabbed my hand and rushed me around the corner, not bothering to pick up his glasses.

We made it back to the hotel on time to meet the rest of the group. We arrived at the airport and boarded and all began to talk about our adventurous day. All seemed well at the moment, except little did we know at the time, as we had rushed out of our little alleyway, a single camera that flashed a few pictures would soon change everything.
