Three of a kind

Common Ground

Piper’s POV
Everyone was quietly decorating their corners and I was grinning at what I brought. I had a couple of pictures hanging of my family. I smiled at my picture of me, my mom, and my dad. I was an only child but my uncle had a lot of children and me and my cousin Isabel were joint at the hip. I had a million pictures of us in this smaller frame that said Til Death Do Us Part along the bottom of the frame in Isabel’s script. I then put up a few of my sketches for design class. I wanted to be a famous fashion designer so that’s what I was here to do. London was a huge fashion capital of the world and I was more than willing to put in my fair share of work to get where I wanted. Once I was finished with my decorations, I put my bed together and then took a look around the room. Sam and Mackenzie had a totally different style than me but I wasn’t going to judge them. I remember exactly how it felt to be judged.

I was looking over at Sam’s corner and smiled when I saw a bunch of what I assumed to be her paintings. She was spectacular. Her paintings all seemed to be watercolor and they were beautiful. I saw her looking over at me weirdly so I tried to make conversation.

“I love your paintings,” I said quietly, “They’re really beautiful.”

“Thanks,” she said taken aback.

“No problem,” I said, “Is that what you’re studying here?”

“Yeah,” she said and I smiled at her.

“I’m totally jealous,” I said, “All I can do is draw and I’ve always wanted to paint.”

We then heard a phone ring and Mackenzie apologized and walked out of the room. Sam came to look at my space and she smiled lightly.

“Fashion major?” she asked.

“Yeah,” I said.

“Cool,” she grinned, “Maybe you can make me some new clothes.”

“I could sure try,” I laughed grinning.

We then took a survey of Mackenzie’s space and I was completely jealous. Her family was huge. She had what looked like to be an older brother and sister, her, and then a younger sister. I then noticed she was a gifted piano player and I smiled.

“She has a huge family,” Sam said.

“Tell me about it,” I said, “I’m completely jealous. All I have is my mom and dad. They weren’t really big on kids.”

“Really?” she asked and I nodded my head.

Looked like we were all artsy people in some way. Hopefully we could all get along and hopefully our friendship could grow.
