The soft hum of the guitar chords filled my ears not long after I spoke. I instantly knew what song it was, even if he was putting his own twist on it. He was playing ‘reminder by mumford and sons’. It used to be one of my favorite songs and right now it took on a deeper meaning than it ever had before.

Harry’s deep voice soon started to sound and I didn’t miss how my breath got caught in my throat. Even if he was in some big boyband, I hadn’t heard his singing voice in a very long time. And to my dismay I started to smile a bit at the sound of his voice. This wasn’t my night.

“Stop humming and sing Kim.” Harry’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

“Uh… No thanks. You can carry on singing, I’ll just be quiet.” I muttered.

I’d never liked my voice. Sure everyone always said I had a nice voice but I’d never liked it. I always thought I sounded like a dying cat. So if I sounded like that to myself, surely I sound like that to everyone else right? So everyone must just be lying to me… Even Lucas.

“Kim pl-“

“I’m not singing Harry!” I cut him off, my voice a bit louder than I would have liked. “Please just… carry on singing. Your voice is so much better than mine anyway.” I said softly, knowing that my outburst would have caught him off guard. I couldn’t tell for sure though because I refused to look at Harry. Instead I looked at the dock and drank some more vodka.

“Fine.” He huffed before he started singing the end of the song.

It didn’t take long for Harry to finish the song and it left us in silence. I wasn’t prepared to break the silence as I looked out to the harbor. But to my surprise Harry started playing ‘slipped away by avril lavigne’.

By the time he got to the chorus the tears had started rolling down my cheeks without my permission. I could feel the sob getting stuck at the base of my throat and I quickly covered my mouth with my good hand. Closing my eyes tightly, I didn’t even notice how Harry stopped singing. I was too busy trying to keep myself together.

“Kim… are you alright?” He asked gently, his voice thick with concern.

“What the fuck do you think Harry?” I tried to sound harsh but it didn’t really work. It came out more as a wail than anything.

“I-I’m sorry…” He mumbled as he lent the guitar against his chair.

“I need to go.” I choked out.

I quickly got up from my chair and tried to leave but soon Harry was in front of me, his hands on my shoulders as he bent his head down slightly to look at my face. Closing my eyes, I let out a deep breath to keep myself from completely falling apart.

“Please Harry. Just let me go.” I whispered, still not daring to look at him.

“Fine. But I want you to know you’re mine Kim.” He replied in his sexy husky voice.

“W-what?” I asked, totally surprised by what he’d just said.

“You’re mine and no one else’s. So just keep that in mind.”

And before I knew what I was doing, my good hand flew out and slapped Harry on the face. I wasn’t putting up with this shit right now.

“How dare you say something like that! My boyfriend is dead. Your best friend is dead! And it hasn’t even been two fucking weeks and you’re already trying to get with me? You should be ashamed of yourself, you asshole!” I yelled at him.

And with that I made my way past him and back to my house as quickly as I possibly could. I couldn’t believe he’d just said that. Did he not care about Lucas at all? Or did he just think I was this big slut who got into a relationship with just anyone?

As soon as I got back into my room, I slipped back into my bed and I let the tears fall freely. I knew that by the morning I wasn’t going to leave my room. If anyone came in I’d pretend to be asleep. I refused to talk to anyone tomorrow. Because I was slowly starting to realize that the world is a fucked up place.

The next morning, I had several people come in and check on me. They of course just found me pretending to be asleep and of course they brought it. They probably all thought I was exhausted both physically and emotionally, which I was.

When I heard the sound of loud footsteps coming up the stairs, I knew who it was. There was only one person other than me, who ran in my house. My best friend Bethany or Beth seeing as she hates her full name. I quickly shut my eyes just in time as a second later Beth came bursting through my bedroom door.

“Alright lazy ass, time for you to get up and grace us all with your presence.” She yelled, while she made her way over to me and sat on top of me.

“Piss off Beth.” I muttered, still refusing to open my eyes.

“No thanks, I’ve already gone toilet today.” She replied cheerfully.

I couldn’t help groan as I started squirming around, hoping it would get her bony ass off me. But it only just made her giggle and cling onto me tighter.

“Beth get your skinny ass off of me!” I growled as I finally opened my blue eyes to glare at the other blonde.

“Only if you promise to get up and come for a walk with me.” Her hot breath was right against my ear when she spoke.

“Fiiiiiine.” I sighed dramatically.

“Good girl.” Beth said before she jumped off of me.

I slowly threw the covers off of me and got up into a sitting position. I was still glaring at Beth as she just stood there grinning at me. I sometimes wondered why we were even friends.

“I expect you down stairs in 10 minutes. And you better look good. Or I’ll drag you back up here and dress you myself okay?” She asked with a raised eyebrow.

I only managed to nod before she patted me on the head like I was a dog. Then sure spun around and bolted out my bedroom door, closing it behind her.

God this was going to be a very long day.
