You're Still The One

Chapter 16

As creepy and bizarre as this may sound, I stood in admiration of the most beautiful sight in all, the world. Seriously, nothing compares to Harry’s angelic figure lying down peacefully sleeping. His tight curls still in perfect array, matted down to one of the many pillows that decorated the floral bed and the light sound of his breathing was the only thing heard.

It wasn't until two solid minutes had passed that I realized what I was doing was a bit strange and that there were other things that could occupy my time. Things rather less creepy and weird than watching Harry sleep.

I mentally slapped myself for such embarrassing behavior.

Seems as though I just couldn’t shake the thoughts of him away...not that I’m complaining it’s just so new to me and a bit strange. I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. Not even before, when I thought I loved him. It’s a unique feeling, way beyond my understanding. Now, I’m happy all the time and singing in the shower. That’s not typical ‘me’ behavior. I don’t sing in the shower. That’s not me. Again, don’t mistake this for complaining because I’m certainly not. Just pointing out the differences I see in myself.

Overall, he just makes me a really happy person.

After having a shower and doing all the necessary things that your average person would do (aside from creepily watching another human being sleep in peace), I went downstairs to the kitchen where my senses detected that tea was made by my lovely mother.

“Good morning,” I sang rather loudly. She nearly spat out her tea as I came rushing into the kitchen to kiss her cheek and get a cup of tea, myself. I joined her at the table as she had her attention focused on the paper grasped in her fingertips. She was dressed in her work uniform. Eyes darted from the paper, taking in my cheerful encounter as I started some light conversation, but she only seemed baffled by my friendliness.

“What’s got you in a good mood?” She asked blatantly. I shrugged in response opening the cupboard to retrieve a mug for some tea. I could feel her staring at me at the same time I poured the warm liquid in the mug and sprinkled some sugar in it.

“It wouldn’t have to do with the fact that Harry spent the night last night, does it?” She asked subsequently squinting her eyes at me, making me feel like I’ve just committed the most abominable sin. I was going to fake like I had not the slightest clue to what she was talking about but there was no use. She was pretty confident when she made the bold statement, so she must have known for a fact that he stayed.

“...Are you upset?”

“We will talk later.” She spoke with a hint of exhaustion in her voice. She stood, quickly tucking her chair in place under the table and making her way to the front door to leave for work, I suppose. I was left in the kitchen alone feeling like an arse. But as bad as I felt, I regret nothing.

I smiled as I carried the warm mug upstairs to my room. Peering in through the door, still sprawled across my mattress was a heavenly figure. Harry was still fully engaged in his tranquil sleep and I hated to ruin it but it had to be done. Leaving the warm mug on the dresser, I stepped onto the bed and began jumping like a kid in a bouncy house. I couldn’t do anything about the giggles eluding from me while his body flopped as a result to my leaps in the air. He groaned and rolled onto his back so I could see his beautiful face that now appeared to be slightly annoyed. His brows furrowed and eyes struggling to stay open and when I didn’t stop jumping, his hands held my ankles pulling them from under me, causing me to fall on my bum.

“Remind me, again, why we are friends?” He deplored in a low voice as he spoke those menacing words to me. Curls adorning the childlike features of his face as he lied next to me. Followed by his insult, a smile slowly crept onto his features.

“Because I’m amazing.”

“That you are,” he said, his eyes closed and his strong hands meeting my waist as his lips overlapped mine. Right away my heart started to thump wildly against the walls of my chest.

"Mm, is that strawberry?" he hummed against my lips pulling away hesitantly, his wistful gaze never leaving my lips. Our foreheads were still touching as I finally built up the courage to speak.

“It is. You like?” I asked, wiggling my eyebrows at the same time that his rough fingers brushed at my flushed cheeks. His bottom lip was taken in between his teeth, before a small smile soon appeared. He nodded slowly before swooping in for another interrupted kiss.

“Your breath is bad.” I giggled, unsure of how to bring the unflattering news to him and lightly shoving at his shoulder to get his smelly breath as far from my senses as possible. No worries, I was careful not to hurt his delicate feelings.

“Oh yeah? Well, what do you expect? I just woke up.” He laughed scornfully. His strong arms wrapped around me, holding me undeniably close to him in contempt as he tortured me with his hot breath.

“Let me go!” I spewed, coming out as a combination of laughing and screaming for dear life. I squirmed in his tight hold, fighting desperately for my freedom until the constant ringing of his phone and suddenly, that was his new distraction. I was released as he pushed the thick layers of the duvet away from his body. He sat with his bare back to me as she scanned the room before waltzing around in his bareness in search for his trousers. It amazed me how free and comfortable he was about being indecent in front of me. When he did find his trousers, hands briskly raided its pockets to discard the phone. His eyes scanned the screen, they widened before his fingers routinely ran across the screen to answer the call.

“Bailey?” He said into the receiver. His finger was brought to his ear to hear her more clearly, I suppose, while the other held the phone to his ear. His bare back was still to me before he roamed around the room to find the rest of his clothes.

“I’m sorry about last night…”He said, leaving me alone in my room for a good fifteen minutes. I sat awkwardly in my room, just sipping some tea, waiting for his return, but when he did he was still on the phone with... her.

I wasn’t too thrilled about that.

“I’m sure she’d want to. I’ll ask her,” he pulled the phone away from his ear and placed a hand over the receiver. “Bailey wants to know if you’d spend the day with her and a friend.”

Why would I want to spend the day with someone who clearly is interested in the same guy that I am interested in? It doesn’t make any sense.

“No,” I said.

“She’s your cousin.”

“I don’t care.”

He frowned and shook his head prior to bringing the phone back to his ear.

“She said she’d be happy to.” He lied totally disregarding my request. I folded my arms neatly over my chest and wore my current emotion proudly. “Thanks again. I owe you one,” he said to Bailey, before hanging up.

“I’m not going out with her.”

*`~*`~*`~*`~*`~*`~*`~*

I can’t believe Harry got me to go out with her.

Being grilled with questions from Bailey and her trusty side-kick at the shops is not how I wanted my Saturday to go. I don’t know how Harry managed to persuade me. Fingers rummaged through clothes hung neatly on hangers of my favorite clothing shop. The hangers made small clinking sounds as I continued to look for something that was more my taste. My eyes were swamped with boredom and slight irritation as Caitlin continued to make sneering remarks about Harry. I don’t know how he had become the subject of conversation; all I know is that I wanted to be as far from Caitlin as possible before I inflicted serious pain on her. Trust me it was definitely a thought that has come up.

“He threatened to kill Josh!” She argued loudly, capturing the attention of almost everyone in the shop and flipping her long brown hair over her shoulder and I’ll be the first to admit that I wanted to give her luminous hair a rough tug but shook the feeling away and rolled my eyes instead. “Am I crazy for believing that he would have killed Josh if Charlie hadn’t interfered?”

My lips parted in disbelief to her stupidity as she continued to give us a quick recap of last night at the party.

“Caitlin. Ease up.” Bailey said coming to Harry’s defense. Caitlin didn’t take heed to Bailey’s advice or notice any of the dirty looks I gave her so, of course, she went on.

“I spoke with Mrs. Fields too.” She stopped there. Like, a simple conversation with Sean’s mother would prove that Harry was a villain of some sort. Caitlin started sorting through hangers too before continuing to speak.

“She said that Harry and Sean had got into a fight before he left...and I’m guessing that Harry’s the reason he’s gone.”

How could someone who knew so little have so much to say? It amazed me. Harry is way smarter than what Caitlin is giving him credit for. He wouldn’t throw his incredible life away on the expanse of taking another person’s life.

“Caitlin!” Bailey scolded, lightly slapping her friend’s arm.

“What? He’s sketchy,” She stated, rubbing the red patch of skin that just got slapped out of retaliation.

“Unbelievable.” I muttered under my breath, almost as if it were a whisper. Caitlin’s sharp eyes darted my direction taking in my now angered demeanor. A hint of annoyance crossed her features too.

“I’m only saying he could be dangerous. That’s just my opinion.”

I literally had to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from saying anything too rash but then again, it sort of needed to be said.

“Since we’re throwing our opinions out there, I think that you’re a trashy slag—”

“OKAY!!” Bailey cut in. “That’s enough talk about Harry, moving on!” She paused momentarily, picking up a really promiscuous top. “This is really cute, don’t you think Cait?”

Of course, she would think it was a cute top. It barely had any material to display but I’m not judging.

“I thought you didn’t like Harry but now he’s back, you’re his biggest fan?” Caitlin asked, ignoring Bailey.

I shook my head, then, glanced at Bailey who looked at me sympathetically. Her eyes locked on me and soon she was smiling wide.

“She loves him.” She answered for me.

I didn’t confirm nor did I deny. It was none of their business if I loved Harry or not.

“How do you know you love him?” She questioned. I detected some doubt in her question as she stared at me blankly patiently awaiting an answer. I knew I loved him and it didn’t need to be proven to Caitlin, but I just felt like giving her some insight on what I was feeling because it’s probably something that she may never experience.

“He’s my best friend he knows all my flaws and imperfections and still treats me like a princess.” I found myself smiling like an idiot. Not only were Caitlin and Bailey fully engaged in the conversation, but the lovely clothing assistant who should have been doing her job rather than poking her nose in my business was also intrigued.

“He puts my safety above his own which was a clear example of what you saw last night. All he wants is to keep me safe and defend me and as pitiful as this may sound, I want to do the same which is why I won’t tolerate anyone speaking down on him." I said, pointing fingers at the lovely Caitlin.

“He never gives up on me and we all know I can be a real bitch at times...”

“Yes, I think we’ve all witnessed this, first hand.” Caitlin murmured turning her head slightly, assuming I didn’t hear her sly remark, but I did.

“He’s perfect.”

I left the women in awe as I summed up my lengthy reasoning for loving him as if there were just a few reasons for loving him. I could go on for days about how much I love him and why, but I doubt we have that kind of time.

“Trust me, he loves you too.” Bailey said.

*`~*`~*`~*`~*`~*`~*`~*

Though Caitlin and Bailey aren’t my favorite people in the world, spending the entire day with them wasn’t half bad. I think the experience brought us all closer. I’m still not completely sure why Harry was so suggestive about me hanging out with them or why it was so important but it surely was fun.

Caitlin was sat on my freshly made bed flipping through one of my labeled bridal catalogs, whereas, Bailey was going through my closet and stuffing clothes into a bag then, scurried off to my dresser to supply the bag with more than enough underwear.

“You probably need more than one pair.. I can only imagine how much shagging will be going on, yeah?” Bailey commented.

“You’re right,” Caitlin confirmed laughing hysterically. Then, she dropped the catalog to turn her attention to me who was just as confused as ever. “About ten pairs, that enough Charlie?”

I shrugged. My eyes glancing quickly at Bailey, then Caitlin, then back at Bailey, then, back at Caitlin. They were laughing, probably at my baffled ignorance. I had no clue to what they were talking about, what the bag, full of my clothes were for and why they were talking about me shagging. Who would I be shagging?

Suddenly, Mum busted through the door putting an end to the girls’ laughing.

“Is she all packed?” Mum enquired. Bailey nodded and handed the heavy bag to me after zipping it up.

“Good. Harry’s downstairs waiting.”

Notes

I'm so sorry for the time it took to update. I put all the blame on school and stuff. Anyway, so what do you think Harry's up to? Any guesses?
