You're Still The One

Chapter 13

(Harry's POV)

I pushed through huddles of people dancing everywhere as squeaky, shriveled versions of my name were emitted into the air. Bailey had run me on several errands in just one night. She asked me to drive some of her dearest friend’s home after having one too many drinks. After doing this last request, I started to question my reason for being here.

“HARRY!!!” She called out again her menacing voice a trillion octaves higher and ten times louder than the roaring music. Quickly and carefully weaving my way through the crowd with her drink in my hand, she continued shouting my name. It took all the strength I had not to lose my temper. But, Bailey would just have to wait just a bit longer as I was distracted.

Charlie had arrived, along with another girl. The same girl she had an awkward encounter with at the club, when she found out her boyfriend was cheating on her with the quirky brunette. I think she’s called Caitlin. Charlie, alone, had gained the attention of everyone in the room as she was fashionably late with her wavy hair cloaked over her shoulder. A satin black dress hugged her body, shaping her up and making her look more mature than the rest of the girls here.

I didn’t like the way that the other guys were looking at her, with lustful eyes. I, so badly, just wanted to let them all know that she was mine. But, I couldn’t because she wasn’t... yet. Forgetting about Bailey and her drink that was still clasped in my hands, I quickly squeezed my way over to the beautiful girl everyone had been watching.

“Charlie, what are you doing here?” I said, in raised tone trying to eclipse the ridiculously loud music. She didn’t look as surprised to see me as I did to see her.

“I could ask you the same thing because if I recall correctly you said specifically and I quote, ‘I’m not going to any parties, no.’” She said, smiling gracefully.“So, why’d you lie— ”

Before I could answer her question her smile quickly faded upon the arrival of Bailey.

“Charlie! I’m so glad you could make it!” She squealed. Charlie’s eyes widened as she scanned her cousin from head-to-toe, noticing what little clothing she wore leaving little to the imagination. Bailey pulled her cousin into her embrace before adding, “Have fun!” She quickly dragged me off into a quiet corner before I could say another word to Charlie. That is where she bound me to dance with her.

“Are you having fun?” she asked, but my attention was on Charlie.

“Yeah, yeah.”

A guy had approached her with drinks in each hand she swiped one before bringing it to her lips. Charlie and alcohol is never a good combination. I’m sure the gesture seemed kind through her naive eyes, but I saw through it. The lad was asking for trouble.

“HARRY?!”Bailey’s screechy voice left a ringing to my ears. I was so distracted I hadn’t even noticed she was speaking.

“Sorry, I was just—”

“Just staring at Charlie?” She smiled. “I didn’t mean to, like, snatch you away from her…I just couldn’t wait to get you all alone.” She said, playfully resting her hand to my chest. My eyes widened as she pushed her breasts out.

“So, I’ll give you, like, ten minutes to go talk to her and by then, you should have said what you need to say and come meet me upstairs.” She winked before getting lost in the crowd. I sighed deeply, trying not to overthink what just happened and I, too, disappeared into the insane crowd, a moment later.

Finding Charlie was harder than I thought. The dim lighting and the ear-splitting music made finding anything difficult. My senses were useless. I may as well look for her with my eyes closed maybe I would have had better luck.

“Oh my God! You’re Harry Styles! I love your music!” The perky girl spewed, stopping me suddenly also rubbing hands on me. I gripped her wrists before she could feel me up anymore, my eyes still looking through the crowd for signs of Charlie.

“Sorry, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I lied.

“You even sound like him.”

Then, I heard Charlie’s infectious laugh. I was too provoked by the prick that kept supplying her with drinks to surpass it. Ignoring and leaving the flirtatious girl behind, I slowly approached the pair standing in front of the kitchen sipping on drinks. Her head snapped over to me and her eyes lit up in excitement when she saw me.

“Harrrry!” she slurred, practically leaping into my arms. “This is my friend Josh. Say hii.”

“Hi.” I said just as she requested. He gave a small nod in response. “Can you give us a moment alone?”

“Sure, mate.”

When the Josh guy was a safe distance away, I pulled Charlie to a place more private. With the exception of two girls passed out on the floor, I’d say the kitchen was as private as it was going to get.

“How much did you have to drink?” I asked her, placing her neatly on the counter and trying to keep her still. I pushed away loose strands of hair away from her face.

“I have no idea. Josh kept bringing ‘em to me.” She said, giggling. “He’s so nice.”

“Charlie stay away from him, ok?”

“But Harry he’s my friend.” She whined in between obnoxious hiccups, folding her arms her chest and pouting like a child. It would have been cute if I weren’t so pissed at foolish she had been to take so many drinks from Josh.

“He’s not your friend, I am. I’m your best mate.” I repeated to her. She nodded motioning that she understood. “Don’t move. I’m going to have a word with Josh.”

A burst of adrenaline shot through me, muscles tightening with each step taken. I pushed my sleeves up my forearm, fists clenched. I pushed my way through people, not really caring about people’s feelings at the moment. I searched the entire estate twice, checking on Charlie each time. Not once did I come in contact with him. Considerably, my feet swiftly carried me upstairs. It was the only area of the house where I hadn’t looked simply because I was trying to avoid Bailey. She found me anyway.

“What took you so long?” she asked, pulling me to what I assume was her bedroom. It had to be hers because she’s the only person I know who has an unnatural love for the color pink. Which is what her room was decorated with: pink everything. She welcomed me in, her hand joining mine as she closed the door, locking it behind us. At first, I thought it was odd that she wore a robe, until she peeled it from her body, revealing herself to me. Then, it hit me like a ton of bricks. Bailey had obviously gotten the wrong impression of our relationship. She’s a nice girl and that’s exactly what I see her as: nothing more, nothing less simply, a nice girl.

A seductive smirk crossed her lips as she began to leave slobbery kisses down my neck. Her bare body pressed to mine, my legs weakened under the contact. I swallowed the gigantic lump in my throat, struggling to fight the lust that had been instilled. With a gentle brush of her lips against mine, I slowly felt myself giving in to temptation. I closed my eyes, my hands meeting at her shoulders, gently pushing her away. The look on her face after I ‘rejected’ her disheartened me. I looked away as she crouched to the floor, picking the robe up to cover herself.

“This is because of Charlie. You really like her, don’t you?”

“I do.”

“I’ve seen the way you look at her. It’s like she’s the only one in the room.” She laughed sneeringly. “I’m so stupid to think you’d be interested in me.”

“You’re not stupid. Any guy would be lucky to have you. Charlie is just different,” I said. Her vision stumbled to the floor like she didn’t believe what I was saying was true. From what I know of her, she’s an incredible girl and she needs to know it. “My only advice to you is that you not try so hard.”

With that said, I stepped towards the door twisting the lock to my advantage and preparing to leave.

“Thanks, Harry.” She smiled. “Charlie is a very lucky girl. I hope she knows that.”

I gave her a small nod, before continuing my desperate search for Josh. I went back down to the kitchen where I left Charlie. She had mysteriously departed from the spot where I specifically told her not to. I looked through the crowd of lively people, not yet tired from the dancing or the drinking. My boiling blood pulsed through my veins as frustration started to get the better of me. Then through the loud music, I heard strained cries of plea emitted into the air. It was Charlie calling me. I followed the sound, until I found Josh and Charlie hidden in a quiet corner, apart from everyone else. Anger completely washed over me, as I watched his hands roam over her taut dress. He had her pinned to a wall, leaving her defenseless against him. His lips and hands violated her, lips moderately travelling down her neck.

My jaw clenched, blood boiling.

Then, everything went dark.

(Charlie's POV)

My eyes clenched shut as a giant burden was lifted off me. Then, I felt a harsh vibration of the floor along with a thud. Slowly, I opened my eyes to see Harry fighting yet another one of my battles. Josh squirmed under his restraint, struggling to defend himself.

I began to worry as a crowd quickly circled around the boys. The music stopped and the only thing to be heard were screams from girls, loud chants from the guys encouraging the fight and the crashing thuds of Harry’s powerful blows to Josh’s face. Just like I needed Harry a few minutes ago, he needed me. So, I had to force myself to sober up as best as I could under the unfortunate circumstances.

Harry’s known around the world and let’s face it, when fights break out the first thing people do is break out their phones to record it. And the last thing I need is for a video of him fighting in my defense roaming around the internet and ending up on a celebrity gossip TV show.

“Harry!” I called out, scrambling to his side on the floor. The alcohol that still flowed through my veins made it difficult for me to stop the fight.

“Touch her again and I’ll fucking kill you! You hear me?!” He yelled out his deep, thunderous voice seemingly shook the room and reverberated long after the harsh words were spoken. Then, the room went silent at his bold threat. Fear struck the faces of those in my vision. Harry didn’t mean anything he said. He would never hurt anyone he was just speaking out of anger. But, only I would know that because I’m the only one who actually knew him.

Surely, I was the only person at this party that could calm him. So, it was my duty to do just that.

I snapped my attention back to the two fighting. Blood oozed from Josh’s nose as Harry maliciously threw a solid punch to it.

“Harry,” I said placing my hands on either side of his face, forcing him to look at me. “You have to stop, right now.” My fear was reflected into his green orbs. It wasn’t a fear of Harry it was more like the fear of the trouble he could get into if the fight continued.

He stopped instantly, looking confused as he stood to his feet. I got him out of there as quickly and quietly people stared at us, scared and flustered but no one tried to stop us either.
