The Start of Something Beautiful

Tickled Pink

“It’s so pink.”
The nursery was covered in the blush pink paint that Harry and I had decided was perfect for our baby girl’s room. He had painted the walls the day before and was now putting up the cute pictures we had made for her walls. The white furniture looked perfect with the pink and grey damask print crib set, the accents around the room made it absolutely perfect. Her name was spelled out in cute letters just above the changing table, a grey armchair was nestled in the corner along with a rocking chair. It was everything I envisioned for my little girl’s room.
"It’s perfect.” I commented smiling at my husband’s work. Harry pulled me into his chest as we stood in the doorway of the nursery.
*
I found myself sitting in the armchair of the nursery that night as Harry showered just thinking about our baby girl that would be here in just a mere three months. My fingers brushing over my belly gently as I hummed.
“When the rain is blowing in your face, and the whole world is on your case, I could offer you a warm embrace to make you feel my love.” The room was peaceful, my soft singing the only thing being heard. The large teddy bear that Harry had brought back from tour lay nestled in the crib making me smile softly.
Sleep was coming to me quickly, somehow I was comfortable in the chair, the silence surrounding me. As I was about to fall completely into a deep slumber, my belly jolted. I sat up quickly, alarmed at the sudden movement inside of me. My hand was placed on my middle, hoping to feel the jolt again. I started humming again, hoping to get something from my little nudger.
A few minutes after humming, there was another kick bringing a wide smile to my face.
“Harry!” I shouted from my place. No answer, not a single sound in the house except for the faint noise of the shower.
“Harry!” This time was louder before hearing loud stumbling and feet running on the hardwood floors. My husband skidded to a halt dripping wet from his shower, clinging onto the towel that hung low and loose on his hips.
“What? What happened? Is the baby okay? Are you okay? What’s wrong baby? Tell me and let me fix it!” His eyes were wide as he flickered them from my face to my belly.
“Give me your hand.”
I pulled his hand to where mine was formerly placed, hoping to get a little kick. Beginning to hum again, Darcy gave a little nudge. Harry’s eyes widened, smile matching as he stared at me in wonder.
“She kicked.” He whispered in awe, placing both hands on my belly and squatting down in front of me.
“I won’t let these little things slip out of my mouth, but if I do, it’s you, oh it’s you they add up to. I’m in love with you, and all your little things.” He sang, thumbs stroking the small spot where Darcy had recently kicked.
Harry sang a few more moments before Darcy started kicking again, this time repeatedly. My hand was clamped over my mouth, tears welling in my eyes as he continued to sing while she kicked, she definitely already loved her daddy. The feeling was uncomfortable, but so amazing at the same time.
“Oh my god, this is so amazing.” His voice was soft, completely amazed by Darcy’s movements inside me. Lips were pressed on her spot, lingering there for a few minutes before he grabbed my face, kissing my now salty lips. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“This is real, this is happening.” He smiled, green eyes full of excitement. Harry was completely ready to be a father, already so absorbed in our daughter, so ready to protect her at all costs and love her no matter what. I couldn’t imagine being married to or starting a family with anyone else in the world. I was so lucky to have Harry, to have him love me and Darcy so much.
“You do know that every time you talk or sing, she’s going to be kicking. I don’t see me getting much sleep from now on.” I chuckled wiping the few tears running down Harry’s face before poking his dimple on his right cheek.
“I’m sorry love.” He apologized sincerely.
“Babe don’t be, it’ll be completely worth it when she’s here.”
His dimples got incredibly deep as he smiled at me, taking my face in my hands once more attaching our lips. “I can’t wait.”
