Like Crazy (Harry Styles & Niall Horan AU)

Chapter Eight

Notes
Hey guys (: So I'm doing the AN up here today because doing it at the end of the chapter is too mainstream. And I've never seen anyone do it up here so I guess I'm kinda Trademarking it. It's official. TRADEMARKED.
Anyway, PLZZZ make sure to comment rate and subscribe, especially the commenting, because it makes me want to write more. So a heartfelt comment might get a quicker update. Just sayin.
I tried to make this chapter longer for you an include a lot of detail about the Empire State Building for those of you who have never seen/ been to/ even know what it is.
Next chapter will be Harry and Kenzie's date so let me know who you're shipping!
I LOVE YOU AND THANKS FOR READING!

I had left Harry's house with tears brimming in my eyes.
I had known Harry and Niall for nearly two weeks, so why did they have such a powerful impact on me already?
I didn't know how, but they did.
I pulled the sleeves of my sweatshirt over my knuckles, gripping it with my fingers.
I knew no matter what I did, I would end up hurting one of them. I didn't want to get close to them both and then have to choose...
I wiped away the tears, feeling a newfound confidence.
He liked Kenzie, and I liked Niall, why can't we just keep it at that?
Harry and I... We could never be anything.
But I knew that wasn't the way he saw it. I think it would be best for us both if we didn't go out anymore.
It all felt like a big tease. Going out with each other, thinking we liked each other, and then having to face reality when it was all over.
I swung open the door to my house, tiptoeing up the stairs to avoid having to face my mother.
I know Niall and I made up, but part of me was still angry at him. If he had just kept his mouth shut none of this would have happened.
I was tired of boys.
Maybe I could become a nun... I laughed to myself. It sure would make life a lot easier.
I saw I had a text from Niall.
A text I really did not want to open. But I did it anyway.
Nialler: Free Saturday night?(:
I groaned.
Wasn't i obligated to say yes? I already told him I would earlier, but how could I say no while his strong, protective arms were wrapped around me... I shook my head And replied.
Sure. See you then.x
Now, how was I going to get out of the house?

Harry's POV:

I unwillingly drug myself out of bed soon after Julia left, confused and distraught.
What had I just said?
I knew Julia and I could never be anything to her... And so that's the way I would keep it.
I didn't want her to think I desperately wanted her, when she didn't want me.
I walked down to the living room, instantly wishing I hadn't.
"How was your date with Julia?" My mom smiled.
"Great," I lied.
"She is so sweet isn't she?" My mom gushed. "What did she want this morning? She wasn't here very long." She questioned.
"Nothing. We're actually... Going out again," I said quickly.

"Really?" My mom raised an eyebrow.
I nodded convincingly.
"That's wonderful. I'm going to get my hair done and then your father and I are going to a charity benefit so we should be home by 10:00," she said, kissing me on the top of the head and heading out the door.
I whipped out my phone as soon as the door shut.
To Kenzie: Are you free tonight?:)
She replied with a yes almost instantly.
JULIA'S POV:
I heard a loud knock on the door and jumped up to answer it. I pulled it open, expecting Lilly or maybe even Hannah, but it wasn't either one.
It was Harry.
"Hello," I said, ushering him inside.
"Hey. Can we talk?" He asked.
"Sure," I sighed.
I didn't feel like talking about 'us' if that's what he had in mind.
I led him up to my room, so my mother didn't hear him. I shut the door and he sat in my window seat, I looked at him expectantly.
"So. I'm just going to come out and say this. It's obvious our parents are going to continue to make us go out, and I have Kenzie, and you have Niall so, I was thinking, what if.."
"We told our parents we were going out with each other but really Im will Niall and your with.. Kenzie," I said, catching on. He nodded and I smiled.
"Not a bad idea, Styles." He nodded.
"I have those occasionally,"
The idea was good... But would it work?
~Later That Night~
I finger combed my hair nervously, mentally running through the plan again.
Harry would pick me up, drop me off where i was going with Niall, and then meet me a few blocks from my house to walk me to the door, making it all look very believable.
I hadn't told Niall the whole... Situation yet.

I knew I had to, based on what happened last time I didn't tell Niall the truth.
He already questioned me when I said he didn't need to pick me up. I heard a knock on the door, which meant Harry was here.
He was making small talk with my mom when I had reached the doorway.
I said goodbye to my Mom, promised to be home by eleven and left with Harry.
I silently got in the car, not knowing what to say. Everything felt a bit awkward.
"So I'll drop you off a little bit away so Niall doesn't see anything and then pick you up at the same place?" Harry confirmed, being the first to brake the silence.
I nodded, looking up at him.
His chocolate curls perfectly framed his face and his beautiful green eyes remained stuck on the road. I ripped my gaze away.
I was staring.
I hoped he hadn't noticed as I turned my head to look out the window.
Harry pulled up a few blocks from the Empire State Building, where Niall had told me to meet him.
"Have a good time," Harry winked.
"You too," I smiled, climbing out of the car.
I walked quickly through the throngs of people flooding the busy streets of New York.
I adored the big city and never minded all of the constant commotion and flow of people.
I finally found Niall, patiently waiting near the doors of the building.
"Hey," I said as I approached him.
"Hey!" He smiled, turning around and engulfing me in a hug.

"So where are we going to?" I asked him as he released me from the hug.
He turned around and motioned to the building. "You're looking at it,"
"Oh," I said, clearly surprised, "I've never been on a date in an.. Um.. Office building,"
He chuckled.
"Well I'm sorry to say this wont be your first time,"

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"We won't exactly be inside,"
I raised an eyebrow.
"Just follow me," he instructed, extending his hand for me to grab.
I did so, and we walked inside. I slowly looked around, taking everything in.
I'd been inside here countless times, yet it never ceased to amaze me.
The high ceilings, American flags scattered everywhere, rows of elevators, the gold etching of the tower itself on the wall. It was mesmerizing.
"Are you coming?" Niall asked me.
He was standing half inside half outside of the elevator, making sure it stayed open for me.
I blushed a little, and headed over in Niall's direction.
Fortunately, Niall and I were the only people in the elevator.
Or so it seemed.
Just as the doors were closing, someone quickly shoved their foot in between the doors, preventing them from doing so.
The doors reopened, revealing a short blonde who quickly stepped in.
She looked over and winked at Niall. I rolled my eyes and moved closer to him, intertwining our hands.
She scoffed and looked away.
I looked at the array of elevator buttons. Niall hit one closer to the bottom of all the numbers while blondie hit one at the top.
Thank God.
She got off first, and I sarcastically waved as she went.
Wait, what was I doing? First off, I was still holding Niall's hand, and I had been totally rude to that girl. Not that she didn't deserve it, but I never did anything like that. Ever.
"That was not like me," I quickly admitted to Niall after she was gone.
"Really? I thought it was kind of cute," He smiled. I blushed watching the numbers on the top of the elevator rise before finally reaching our floor.
Niall led me down a long hallway with a staircase at the end of it. The stairs were long and quite steep, and I was out of breath about halfway up.
Damn I was out of shape.
"I need a break," I huffed, signaling to Niall, who was quite a few steps ahead.
He laughed, coming down to meet me.
"Not now! We're almost there. It's going to be worth it, I promise," he said.
He motioned for me to turn around. I did as he said and he picked me up, piggyback style.
I giggled as he walked up the remaining steps, placing me down carefully before a large metal door.
"Close your eyes," he commanded, I closed them as Niall opened the door and carefully led me out.
"And... Open," he whispered to me, hot breath tickling my ear.
I opened my eyes and my suspicions were confirmed. We were on the top of the building.
Like thee very top.
"Wow," I exclaimed walking to the railing. looking down on the beautiful city.
The whole ledge was filled with candles and it looked amazing.
"Are we allowed to be up here?" I asked.
He smiled. "Kinda,"
This boy was confusing me.
He led me over to a table he had set up,
"Bon Appetite" he said, in a mock French accent, making me laugh.
We began to eat, and I had to admit it was incredibly romantic.
Until I heard voices.
"They're up here, sir,"
Niall looked at me, wide eyed. He quickly pulled me underneath the table, squatting up to see who was talking.
"Shit!" He exclaimed.
"What? Who is it?" I whispered.
He didn't respond, so I slowly rose to my knees to see for myself.
I instantly shot back down
. "Security?!" I scream whispered, "So I take it we weren't supposed to be here?"
His face flushed and he looked a bit embarrassed. "Well... No not really," he admitted.
The security guards were about to find us.
Niall took my wrist, and with a quick jerk we were around the corner.
I let out a deep breath. I heard footsteps around the corner and Niall took my hand again.
We rounded corners until there were none left, and Niall had a look of worry on his face.
"You're not going to like this.." He said.
"What?" I asked nervously, hearing the footsteps again.

"We're going to need to walk out here," he said, pointing to a window ledge.
I instantly shook my head. His eyes were pleading.
"Come on," he whispered, taking the first step himself.
I heard more than one pair of footsteps behind me and impulsively grabbed his hand, reluctantly stepping out on the ledge of someone's window.
At the top of the Empire State Building.
1,454 feet in the air.
No big deal.
My hands were shaking and I was struggling to walk in my shoes.
Niall put his arm around my waist, pulling me up tight to the window, out of view from anyone walking by.
I held my breath as the security guard took his time surveying the area, before finally leaving.
"Wow," I finally said, after standing in silence for about five minuets.
"We need to get inside," Niall said.
I nodded quickly, heading in the direction we had come from. "But not that way," He added.
"What!? Why not! I am NEVER in a million years walking along windowsills on the top of the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING!" I exclaimed.
He sighed in frustration. "Either come this way or risk meeting those guards. Why do you have to be so uptight? Have a little fun," he urged.
"I'm not uptight!" I said, defensively. "And I'm sorry if I'm not exactly keen on climbing the largest building in the city!"
He extended his hand.
"Either way your taking a chance."
"Well I think ill take mine running into those guards. Ill just say I got lost or something," I said.
"They won't buy that," he informed me.
"And why not?" I asked, putting my hand on my hip.
"Because you need a certain key to get up here," he said, holding up a small silver key.
My eyes widened. "You stole it!?"
"No! Ill explain later, just... Come with me!" He said urgently.

Well it looks as if I had no other choice. I reached down and pulled off my shoes before slowly stepping out into the ledge. It was wide enough to easily walk on, yet my feet and hands were sweating intensely.
I walked carefully out to Niall.
Niall's POV:
I was holding Julia's hand behind me and walking forward cautiously. I saw an open window ahead and decided that was going to have to be where we entered the building.
I definitely didn't plan this, but I thought it was kind of fun.
An adventure.
I slowly peaked through the window, and thanked God that the office appeared empty.
"We're going through" I informed her.
She looked shocked. "Like braking in?"
"Not exactly. Your telling me you've never broke into anywhere before?" I asked.
She shook her head.
I was going to teach this girl how to live.
I smirked.
"Well lets change that then,"
In one swift motion I kicked the screen to the window and it fell into the office, knocking over a pile of papers.
I leaped in, Julia stepping in carefully behind me.
I took her hand, carefully flinging open the door. We headed down the hall, and got in the elevator.
The doors shut and I burst out laughing.
"You thought that was FUNNY?!" She raged.
"Kind of. Julia we climbed across the side of the largest building in the city to get away from security. You see no humor in that?" I asked.
She leaned against the wall of the elevator and let a small smile creep onto her lips.
"Okay maybe a little,"
"I've never done anything like that," she said, rubbing her temples.
"What?" I asked, "broken a rule?"
"Haha very funny," she sarcastically replied.
"You don't get out much do you?" i asked.
"I do so," she defended.
"Really?" I questioned. "When was the last time you went to a party? Kissed someone? Didn't turn a paper in the second it was due?"
"Okay! Maybe I'm a little bit of a goody goody but that's not a bad thing," she said.
"I think it's kinda cute," I said, repeating what i said earlier.
She blushed at my compliment.
I moved a peice of hair from her face.
She was beautiful.
All of the sudden the elevator doors opened and I jerked away.
Luckily we had reached the ground floor and could get out of here before anyone saw us.
