Like Crazy (Harry Styles & Niall Horan AU)

Chapter One

My name is Julia Parker, and I'm often confused as perfect.
My parents had a lot of money, mostly passed down from my grandmother when she died, and my dads high paying job as a business man.
I can't pinpoint exactly what he even does.
I try to be nice to everyone, I get good grades and often have expensive things.
But I would trade it all for one thing.
Love.
And I don't mean a boyfriend-girlfriend Romeo and Juliet kind of love, I mean someone to care for and about me.

Someone I can freely open up to and tell everything without worrying about trusting them.
Someone who seriously understands... Me.
Of course I had parents who 'loved' and adored me, but they didn't love me for who I was.
They were constantly trying to change me, telling me what to do and choosing everything for me, I never had a choice, all I ever did was plaster on a fake smile and agree.
I'd been doing that for as long as I could remember. Seventeen and a half years of never really showing anyone who I am inside.
What I like. What I want.
I can only imagine what I would act like, how I would feel if I could choose for myself, go to parties, do things I wanted to do. But to my parents it was all about keeping a classy reputation.
I had to be completely perfect for any guy to even give me a second glance in their eyes.
I never went out, mostly because I wasn't close friends with barely anyone.
Lily-Anne had been my best friend since we were young, our parents were very close and Lily's parents were close to as strict as mine.
Lilly had been really my only true friend and at times she had seen glimpses of the real Julia, but I always felt like even though we were like sisters she would turn away from me if I started acting different.
That she wanted to be friends with the Julia everyone else saw and adored.
I couldn't loose Lilly.
So many people at school wanted to be friends with Julia that rich and popular girl, and so many times I've been hurt and used for who I am that it's hard to open up anymore.
I felt comfortable with Lilly.
I wasn't sure if the real me would ever surface and if I would ever show it to anyone.
It felt weird, acting like I'm someone I'm not, all the time.

Acting like I'm always happy and that I like being told what to do constantly and that I like going to dumb dinner banquets with people 'high up there' in the business world.
But I was bound to hit my breaking point at some time, because not everyone can stay perfect for long.
~~~
"Honey! Our guests are here!" My mother called from the bottom of the staircase.
"Coming!" I replied.
I drug myself off of my bed and quickly fixed my makeup in the mirror. I was so tired of these dumb dinner parties with people I didn't even know.
They always asked about school and where I planned on attending college, and once the word college left anyone's mouth my parents would start a long conversation about how many colleges have accepted my application and how I made the honors program at NYU and Stanford.
I rolled my eyes at the thought. I tried to get out of this dinner tonight, but mother said this was an extremely important night and I would be meeting a 'charming and sophisticated young man'.
The last thing I wanted was for my mom to start setting me up with dads businessmen friends children.
The ones I've met so far are extremely geeky and looked like president of the A/V club. I laughed at the images coming to mind of what this 'charming and sophisticated young man' would look like as I walked down the stairs.
I noticed the kitchen and dining room to be empty so I made a bee line to the living room.
"There she is!" My dad smiled upon my entering the room.
"Hello everyone" I said, looking around the room.
I noticed a man with gray hair sitting next to a slightly younger looking woman on the couch, my dad sitting on an arm chair across from them, and my mom stood in the entry way by me.
I didn't see any nerdy looking kid around and was confused.
"Jeff, Melinda, this is my daughter, you remember Julia?" My mother introduced me.
"Of corse we do!" The man, Jeff I assume, smiled.
Funny, I thought, I sure don't remember you.
"Our son Harry should be here any minuet! He was just finishing off an essay. I'm terribly sorry" Melinda said.
I tried my best not to laugh. I knew he'd be nerdy already.
His name was Harry first off, and what kid in their right mind would purposely stay home to do home work?
"That's completely fine. Does anybody want anything? I'm running into the kitchen," I asked politely.
"There are appetizers on the counter, would you grab them dear?" My mother asked.
I nodded and headed out the door. I heard the stock market come up in conversation and was glad I left when I did.
I stuck the appetizers in the oven and opened the fridge in search of a Dr.Pepper.
"Damn are we out?" I asked, recklessly knocking things over inside the fridge.
I finally found one and was about to grab a glass when I heard a voice.
"Out of what?" I heard someone ask from behind me.
His voice was deep and raspy, and i definitely did not recognize it.
I spun around and was not prepared for what I was about to see.
A man stood behind me, about 5'10 he had dark, long, curly black hair that swung across his forehead. His eyebrows were knit in concentration as he searched me for an answer, his piercing green eyes looking straight into my brown ones.
I had to admit he wasn't bad looking.
"Uh.. Nothing. Who are you exactly?" I asked, slowly.
"Harry. Harry Styles" He said extending his hand.
I literally dropped my can of soda when the words left his mouth and it exploded all over the tile floor.
"Crap" I said quickly grabbing a towel.
"Here let me help you" He said, grabbing a towel himself and leaning down on the floor by me, assisting me in cleaning up the mess
. I noticed the bottom cuff of his jeans were soaking wet. "Oh gosh I'm so sorry" I said, motioning to his pants.
He laughed.
"It's okay. You a bit surprised there?"
"I just I mean... You weren't how I expected you to be I mean uh.." I stuttered, looking up into his eyes.
Our foreheads were almost touching as he smiled, I noticed the dimple in his cheek.
"Judging by the cover, eh?" He whispered.
I felt lost in his eyes, as though I could look into them forever.
Harry was definitely no president of the A/V club.
All the sudden I was snapped out of thought as the oven went off.
We both stood up hastily, our heads smashing against each others.
"Im so sorry!" I said "I've been such a klutz tonight"
"Don't worry about it" he said, flashing me a smile and rubbing his head.
I felt terrible, Harry had been nothing but nice to me, and all I had done was spill soda all over him and potentially cause him a bruise.
I grabbed the appetizers from the oven and lead Harry into the living room, carelessly leaving our Dr.Pepper soaked rags on the floor.
"Sorry that took so long" I said, placing the food on the coffee table.
"No problem" smiled Jeff. "So I see you've meet Harry then?" My mother and Melinda shared a smile.
"Yes," I said, quietly "we've met"
