Will You Stay?

Chapter 13

***HARRY'S POV***
The sound of my ringtone woke me. The sun was streaming in through my window as I pick up my phone.
"Hello?"
"Harold Styles! Open the door!" Jessica. She would give me no mercy, and called each and every day, sometimes more than once.
"What do you mean, what door?" I groaned.
"The front door!" What?
"You're here?"
"Yes, of course I'm here! Now open up!" And with that, she ended the call.
Oh god. She's here.

I got up out of bed, and put on some pants.
As I walked to the door, I saw her face through the window, peeking in. I opened the door, and her annoyingly prying brown eyes widened with anger at me.
"You think you can leave me in Cheshire, and escape to this place without a goodbye?! You can't do that to me! We were so in love and suddenly you're gone the next morning! Explain yourself!"
Her flood of words hurt my head. Yes, I had been dating this annoying, shrill-voiced girl for four years, and left for Florida without saying anything to her. She was to clingy, and personally, I don't know how I wasted four years of my life with her. She probably expected us to get married, but I would rather die.
"Uh, listen Jess, I meant to break up with you before I left the country, but I had more important things on my mind."
She opened and closed her mouth, trying to think of how to respond.
"Why would you possibly want to break up with me! You love me and you know it! Just kiss me and you'll feel better." A smile spread on her face, as if she was sure her kissing me would make me any better. She tried throwing herself at me, puckering her prissy little mouth.
"No thank you, I'd rather not. So if you could please leave, -"
"Harry quit resisting, you can't deny your undying love for me!"
This was getting quite annoying.
"Jessica. I do not love you anymore. Get that through to your tiny brain, I don't want to be around you any longer, so get on a plane and leave." I tried speaking clearly, because apparently, she didn't know when she was being broken up with. I studied her face as she took this in, and she did not look happy.
"Harry, how could you do this to me! We had something special! Please!" She took acting classes, so to anyone else, her tears would be believable, but I knew it was all an act. If I was the same guy I was three years ago, I would've broken down and given her anything she wanted, but this time, the sight of her tears gave me the opposite effect.
"Jess, drop the act and get away from here."
"Fine! But I'll be back, and you will love me!" With that, she left.
Thank god.
***MEADOW'S POV***
"Hi, I was wondering if you had any job openings?"
"Sorry, ma'am not here."
"Okay, thanks." I had been to a few small shops down in the city, looking around for job opportunities, but I didn't have any luck. I had tried every music store, and all but one bookstore. I decided I'd give it one last shot. This small shop on the corner of the road was called Books By The Sea.
When I opened the door, a little bell sounded. The place smelled like books and cinnamon. There were long rows of bookshelves, and I noticed the place looked small on the outside, but was decently sized inside. I wandered through the store until I reached the back, where a woman in her 50's stood behind a counter.
"Can I help you, miss?" She inquired. She had few wrinkles that could only be seen up close, but she looked good for her age.
"Yes, I was wondering if you would consider hiring?" She seemed to consider this for a moment, before answering.
"What days would you want to work?"
"I can work weekdays after four o'clock, and weekends."
"Well I think I can handle weekends by myself, but how about you come in Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from four to nine?" This was much better than I expected. I was hoping to save up to pay for my phone bills, and anything else I needed.
"Yeah- yes, thank you!"
"Alright dear, just come in ten minutes early on Monday so I can show you what to do?" She reminded me of my mom, kind and smiling.
"Okay, sounds great, thank you so much!"
I walked out of the shop and headed for home.
