These Chapters of Our Lives ~ COMPLETED

Better or Worse

Once again, I found myself sitting in the field. The winds were blowing calmly making the tall grass sway and the dandelions to disperse. I smiled softly to myself, taking in the view a little longer. If this hadn’t been a dream, I would have thought this place looked familiar.

My eyes wandered until I looked directly in front of me where the small girl sat staring back at me. For some reason, I feel as though I’ve seen those eyes before, but there would appear to be no logical reason. I blinked at her, unknowing of what to do. She tilted her head, so I copied. She giggled, and I did too.

“Do you know why I’m here?” I ask trying to start up a conversation. She shakes her head vigorously. “Oh… Well why are you here?”

She fiddles with the lone dandelion in her hand, not looking eye to eye when she replies. “I ran because you were chasing me, but I don’t think you’re that scary anymore. My mommy will come get me soon so we can be there on time.”

“Be where?” I crease my eyebrows together.

“To my mommy’s best friend’s-”

“Ana? Where are you sweetheart?” the voice once again took place in my head.

“That’s my cue,” she whispers to me. “I’m right here, mom!” she shouts up to the hill. She stands up and brushes off as much dirt as she can before running up to her mother. I watch as she takes her hand and they walk off together.

“But you never told me where you were going!” I try to yell at her, but she is long gone and the darkness once again overtakes me.

I wake up slowly, my eyes trying to adjust to the dark. That marks a total of four times I’ve dreamt the same dream. This odd occurrence had me wondering what could be causing these dreams. In an attempt to clear my head, I took my phone from its stand and hop out of bed.

I slip on one of Harry’s sweaters that lie carelessly on the floor and carefully open and shut the door to our bedroom as I make my escape. I tiptoe downstairs and sneak out the back door that leads into the backyard.

I sigh, making my way over to the edge of the pool where I lower my butt to the ground and dip my feet into the water. My mind drifts slightly away from the dreams as I trace the ripples in the water, but I take course when a cool breeze passes me. Gripping the loose sweater tighter around my frame.

“It’s the middle of the night. What are you doing out here?” I turn my head to see the blonde striding towards me.

“Hey, Niall. I’ve just got some thing on my mind. What are you doing up?” He sat down next to me, his legs crossed in underneath him.

“I couldn’t sleep, and I saw you come out here so I followed. So what’s up? Bad dream?”

“Well… I guess you could say that…” I mindlessly kicked my feet in the water.

“How so?”

I looked up to Niall; his eyes were filled with concern. I ran my fingers through my hair, almost like Harry when he gets nervous. Do I tell Niall or keep it to myself? I guess if I refuse to tell Harry, then Niall is no exception.

“Niall, what is your impression on dreams?” I ask. He gives me a quizzical look, so I try to explain it in simpler terms. “What do you think about dreams? Do you think that dreams have meanings?”

“Um…” He let out a small chuckle and scratched the back of his neck. “Here’s how I see it. Dreams come from experiences and memories or what your heart wants, so as long as your heart is in your dream, it will come true. Is that what you’re asking?”

I shrug. “I guess. I don’t know; it’s just… I’ve been having the same dream, and I don’t normally dream of a dream twice. Maybe there’s some type of message in it, or… I’m not sure really. It’s just strange to me.”

“It’s probably nothing. Don’t let it bug you too much. But if it keeps happening, I’m always open to talk.” Niall opens his arms and I lean against his shoulder.

“Thanks, Niall.”

“Any time.” We sit there in silence for a few moments before Niall claims that he better be off to bed and suggests that I be leaving too. I tell him I’ll head in soon, and he leaves for the warmth of the house.

I sigh. ‘What am I going to do?’

~

The next morning, or rather later that morning, I woke up to all of the hustle and bust going on downstairs. I huffed into my pillow before crawling out of bed once again to figure out what all the raucous was about.

When I got downstairs, my ears lead me to the kitchen where five boys were attempting to – I honestly don’t know what they were trying to do. Each of the boys, whom I haven’t seen often this month, was covered head to toe in what looks to be flour or convection sugar and some other liquid mess.

“What is going on in here?” I yelled, staying in the view of the doorway to refrain from joining the mess. The boys all started to accuse one another at the same time, pointing fingers and making strange gestures with their hands. Then, they started to get defensive and ended up throwing more – to my newest knowledge – flour and pancake batter. “Alright, that’s enough! You; I thought you were the responsible one so talk.”

“We wanted to make you all breakfast to make up for not being here that often, but then someone threw flour and it all went downhill from there.” Liam spoke with emphasis on someone but he didn’t refer or hint to anyone in specific.

“You know what? I honestly don’t care; I just want to know why the hell you didn’t invite me down here when Louis got batter in his hair. And to think you didn’t even film it… unacceptable guys. Have I taught you nothing?” I smirked at them. They all looked shocked and pissed off at the same time. Their glares got me worried and worried me even more when they exchanged dirty nods. Louis, who stood closest to the counter, picked up the bowl filled with pancake batter. The other boys picked up other kitchen utensils and turned to glare at me more.

“On three,” Harry said. “One…”

“What are you guys doing?” I slowly started to back away.

“Two…” Niall continued.

“Don’t you dare come near me while you’re all covered in-”

“Three!”

I screamed and ran for the other direction, but due to my short legs, I was not fast enough to escape the dirty clutched of Harry. He took me from behind and dragged me back into the kitchen where I was instantly met with a bowl of pancake batter on my head, slowly descending down my face. I gasped in shock, closing my eyes to avoid the batter, but started coughing a storm when flour was thrown at me from all directions, especially in my face. I heard them all laughing at me, high-fiving each other.

“And cut! That was brilliant, mates; I especially loved the part where you threw flour down her shirt. Nice touch.”

I wiped the filth from my eyes and gaped at them all as they hovered around Zayn’s phone watching a replay of what just happened. I nodded my head and shrugged my shoulders.

“Not bad.”

~

I haven’t talked to Harry since this morning, not even at breakfast when we went out to the café down the street. He’s been avoiding me today, and it’s really bothering me. He didn’t even say anything after he dragged me back into the kitchen and lead the ambush against me. I can’t say I’m mad, but I’m a little upset about it.

So here I stood, in front of the mirror, adjusting my outfit for possibly one of the most significant parts of my life while he stands on the other side of the room putting on his bow tie. His back is to me; something is up. I turn to face him.

“Harry?” I call out softly.

“Yeah?” His voice is sheepish; I almost don’t hear him.

“Will you zip me up?” I ask. He nods and walks over to me. I turn around and allowed him to fully zip up my dress. “Is everything alright? You’ve been avoiding me today…”

“I’m fine,” he said nervously whilst trying to figure out his tie. I sighed and took the bowtie from him and tied it correctly around his neck. He sighed. “Thank you. I’m sorry for not talking to you today; I’m just a bit nervous is all…”

I smiled. “It’s okay, and it’s just a movie Harry. Nothing to be nervous about.” I’m just glad he’s being honest. “So what do you think?”

Harry’s POV
She spun around in her dress. http://www.polyvore.com/premiere/set?id=96794649 To be honest, she looks amazing, as usual, but this is it. This is the open door. I took in a deep breath. I can do this.

“You look beautiful… but I think you’re something is wrong,” I tease. I had been nervous all day, but I was going to be confident about this. I needed to be confident.

She instantly started to panic; I could see the worry lines through her light makeup job. “What is it? Is it my dress? My necklace? Bracelet? Hair-”

“No, no-no, it’s not that. I just… I think you’re missing something.”

“What do you mean?” she questioned. This is it…

I held up my index finger with one hand and started to dig through my pockets. It’s in here somewhere… there! I pulled out the small box and kneeled onto the floor. Her eyes were wondering around the room, so I coughed to bring back her attention.

“Harmony Annabelle Mattingly,” I started. I heard a slight gasp escape her lips as her hand flew up to her mouth. “Ever since I met you that summer and you ignored my calls and texts and pretty much all sources of communication afterward, I knew you were the one for me.

“Maybe it was the way my heart broke when you didn’t talk to me or I didn’t see your face for months, but you truly had me falling, and I couldn’t stop myself. I love you with all my heart, so would you please make me the happiest man alive… and marry me?”

Her eyes were already letting go of tears as she whispered out that one word.

“Yes.”

Harmony’s POV
I was in shock as I felt myself being lifted off the floor and spun around. The cold metal slowly made its way onto my finger; I didn’t know what to say, what to feel. I just knew that I had made the right choice.

“So this is why you’ve been avoiding me all day?” I asked.

He nodded slightly. “What do you say we get to the premiere now?” Harry smiled. Now I nodded and took his hand as he led me downstairs.

“Well?” Louis asked as we got down. Figures that everyone knew about this. I raised my hand with the ring letting the loud cheers commence. The girls squealed with me as they admired the simple diamond ring with sapphire as well. http://www.polyvore.com/your_own_engagement_ring_design/thing?context_id=6330283&context_type=user_fav&id=90923342

“Enough dilly-dallying. Do you want to get to your premiere or not?” Paul stormed into the room. Everyone laughed but agreed as Paul pushed us all out the door. “And congratulations you two.” He smiled at Harry and me as we made our way out. I smiled back politely and thanked him. Nothing could make this day better, or worse.

~

We had been bombarded in questions from fans and news reporters, but we had yet to make an official statement. Watching the movie I had been longing to see was amazing, but I still like the original movie better. I sighed happily as I leaned my head against Harry’s shoulder in the limo.

“We need to celebrate!” Louis announced. He whispered something to the driver and we took off in a different direction from home. I laughed at Louis’ odd chat with the driver before taking my phone out and turning it on.

When my phone had fully powered on, my screen was flooded with notifications, but unlike the usual tweets or Facebook emails, my screen was filled with missed calls and texts, all from Talia.

From Talia:
Call me please!!!

Each message, for a total of about 24 messages, said the same thing, and I had about twice as many missed calls. I became genuinely confused, but hit the call button anyway. It rang twice before she answered.

“Hello?” I asked. The was no response, but I could hear sniffles coming from the background. “Talia you there?”

“Harmony?” Her voice was shaking. “Is that you?”

“Yes, it’s me. What’s wrong? Has something happened?” I was rushing my words, leaning forward in my seat and everyone was looking at me now.

“Harmony…”

“Spit it out, Tal. You’re worrying me.”

“Drew is dead.”

I never thought three simple words could break me so much, or that anything could possibly happen to ruin this day, but those three words did, and I was almost wishing that today had just been a dream.

But it wasn’t…

My brother is dead.

@Lazylazerpants
I can't believe I just saw your comment! Thank you so much! I honestly don't think this series was that great, but if you really did enjoy it, you'll definitely enjoy my other story, Love At First Type, if you haven't read it already. You don't have to, but it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again! :D

So I spent the past week reading all three of these and I have to say, this was a fantastic end to a fantastic series. Great job!

@ThatRebelUnicorn
It is a compliment, I didn't know what word I should use and I thought "unusual" was the most appropriate :)
that's it! The cliffhanger was perfect though! It worked perfectly!

@Marbleskin
Still not sure if I should take "unusual stories" as a compliment, but thanks! To be completely honest, I completely agree that the ending of Listen To Your Heart was horrible, but I was kind of going for the cliff hanger thing like at the end of Catching Fire, but yeah… it sucked. I'm really glad that you liked the sequel though :D

Being honest, I was mad at the en of Listen to your heart, because to me, it wasn't a good ending. And I was so sad that it was over! Then, 2 hours ago, I realized that you wrote a sequel! I felt so stupid yet so happy!
I'm happy that you give the explanations of everything in the epilogue, what a brilliant idea! When I first read it, I was afraid that I missed it, that I could have skipped a chapter accidentally...
This sequel is amazing, you're still an amazing writer, & I truly like your other story too! Thanks for writing such good things and unusual stories!
